co-sleeping with a really high bed

I was planning on having a co-sleeper next to the bed, or even use the rock-n-play.

When we went to look at the cosleepers, we realized the baby would be alot lower than the top of the bed.  We have a new mattress and boxspring that is so high its kind of ridiculous.  When I'm standing its at my hip. Its not the bed legs or frame (lowest frame we could find).

Any one co-sleep with a high bed like this?  It seems like it would kill your back to be reaching down for the baby all of the time.

Then I thought maybe we could use the Snuggle Nest, that goes on the bed itself.

Any thoughts?  Thank you!

Re: co-sleeping with a really high bed

  • You can get extensions for the the Arm's Reach that will lift it up to 32".

You could just get a bed rail and put the baby straight in your bed (that's what I did for the first ~6 months).

  • Loading the player...
  • Put the frame and box spring in storage for awhile? We bought a king-size mattress about three years ago, and still haven't gotten a frame for it.

Also, we hated the Snuggle Nest. It was a pain having to move the baby back into it after he was already asleep.

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • There are lots of options: side-car baby's crib (see if there is away to adjust the mattress base or put risers under the legs), raise the cosleeper with risers, remove your boxspring, store your bedframe and put your bed on the floor, put a railing on your bed. Maybe one of those will work. GL!
  • I had the opposite problem with my first, my bed was abnormally low and all of those things didn't work with it. I used a snuggle nest-type contraption when she was a tiny newborn, then just put a rail and had her sleep in bed with me when she was a bit bigger.

  • We ended up taking our mattress and box spring off the frame and storing it for awhile, since LO ended up in bed with us most nights. We used the RNP sometimes and the heights worked well. I like that our bed is lower to the floor because 1) It's easier for me to get in and out of holding a baby and 2) I don't worry about LO rolling out of bed as much.
  • Ok,  thanks for all of the suggestions!  I didn't know the arms reach had risers, I will check that out.

  • My dad just built a simple platform that raised the Arm's Reach up to the right level. We used moving straps to 'bolt' it down, and the co-sleeper NEVER moved, the whole 6 months we were using it.
