I realize it is probably such a silly question, but I have no idea how/when to use diaper cream.
Today at the pediatrician's office they recommended using petroleum jelly or a diaper cream as a preventive measure and a barrier to moisture. We have tons of different creams we got as gifts, but DH and I just realized when we arrived home from the doctor that we have no idea when to use them (once a day, at every change?) or even where to apply the cream. Does it just go on the bum cheeks?
I figured I could google this but am not having much luck as everything just says to "apply liberally to the diapering area." I feel so silly for not knowing this stuff!

We only use it if we notice she's starting to get red or pink. We've only needed it a handful of times. Just take a good generous amount and slather it on anywhere that looks irritated. Put the diaper on and check on it again at the next diaper change. We usually will reapply at every change if she's starting to get irritated, just so it doesn't become actual diaper rash.
We've also used it on other places besides her tushy area. She rubs raw the skin in between her neck rolls. I applied a little there and it cleared it right up.
