Re: Vegan or Vegetarian Prenatal Vitamin Rec?
Hi there!
I use the Super Nutrition Simply One Prenatal. It is gluten free and vegetarian. It also has 1000mcg of Folic Acid which is really important.
I get it at Whole Foods.
HTH!

Thank you!
Are you a vegetarian or vegan? Did you need to modify your diet when you were pregnant? Everyone I know tells me i'm going to have to give up my restrictions when i'm pg but I don't feel I need to compromise myself or my baby just simply because i'm pg... I'd love your advice. Thank you.
Lchase, I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but am a believer in whole/pure foods. I do know a lot veggie/vegan women who have had very successful pregnancies without compromising their beliefs.
I honestly would talk to you dr about any additional supplements that you might need. I think b12 is super important if you are veggie, but please do not quote me on that.
Best of luck!!!

I was vegan when I became pregnant. My doc was totally on board with it as long as my blood work etc. came back okay. I was vegan for about 5-6 weeks into my pregnancy and then it flew out the window:) I had such a huge appetite for almost everything. I never was sick, instead I wanted to eat everything in sight. I found myself craving meat every once in a while, and I would eat it - mostly seafood. Chicken and red meat still grossed me out.
The dairy I have been eating has been mostly cheese, eggs, breads and sweets. Cheese was the hardest thing for me to give up when I became vegan, and I have loved eating it again:) lol
All in all I probably don't eat very much dairy compared to a regular person, but I have it. I'm 25 weeks pregnant now and I finally feel like my appetite is diminishing a bit, and I've been stricter in my veganism.
As someone who has never had a weight problem and has always controlled food, I have felt out of control while I have been prego. I am so hungry all the time, and I eat so much. Just my experience. And I felt like if I was really craving meat, or cheese, then my body probably needed it and I should have a little.
And just don't tell people you are vegan and prego. People who aren't vegan don't understand and they will give you a hard time. Do tell your doc, don't tell others. Friends and relatives game me areally hard time, but again they no nothing about the diet. Its just easier not to go there.
I use Dr. Fuhrman's Gentle Prenatal Vitamin. It is a vegan formula, and is very easy on the stomach. https://www.drfuhrman.com/library/harmful_ingredients_in_supplements.aspx
Dr. Fuhrman also has a vegan DHA supplement.
I also use Dr. Christopher's Vitalherbs as a completely non-synthetic, plant-based nutrient supplement. https://www.mynaturalmarket.com/dr-christopher-vitalerbs-100-whole-food-vitamins-minerals-180-capsules.html
