On the go feedings ~ What are you using?

Hi Mommys I'm wondering what everyone is using.  If you go out for the day with LO the bottles need to stay cold and then be warmed to room temp. for feedings.  What products are you ladies using for this.  Is there a cooler & warmer that you ladies recommend?  Thanks.

  • I personally don't FF, but from what I've heard, bottles are fine at room temp.  So you could presumably prep them beforehand and give them from your bag as needed.  If you're at a restaurant, you can usually ask for a cup of hot water to make a bottle if LO prefers it warm.  You could also prewarm them to a little above ideal temperature and put them in a portable cooler without the ice pack to keep them warm.  Someone else will have to chime in on whether or not the milk would be good kept warm like that all day, but it's just an idea.

  • Are you talking breast milk or formula? And if it is formula then is it premixed? I pump breast milk at times when I am on the go. Breast milk is good up to 6 hours at room temperature. I will then pump during the day. We are still working on latching so I don't nurse in public yet. Plus pumping takes 15 min and nursing takes 45 min to 1 hr. as for formula, I put water in a few bottles and take the formula with me.
  • I FF my DS and did with DD and I either bring a couple of Poland Spring size bottles depending how long I will be gone for and pour water into the bottle and add formula or put the water in the bottles before I leave and just add the formula as I need

I was talking about formula, which they usually say that it's not good if left out for more than an hour.

  • We FF and I put water in the bottles before leaving the house.  We add the formula when needed.  We have this so it's already measured and we just pour it in:

No problem!  BRU and Walmart also have dispensers, and I imagine Target would too.  We have 2 - one for the diaper bag and one we fill and take upstairs at night so I don't have to go downstairs to make a bottle when DD wakes up.

OK great.  I'll check Walmart.  I actually purchased a small refrigerator at Target for about $50 to put in our room upstairs so we don't have to run down all night.  DD wakes up every 2 hours, sometimes every 1 1/2 hours for a feeding.

This exactly!! We do the same thing:) When I got this as a gift at my shower I thought wth is this thing, but it is a lifesaver...I usually warm DD bottles but when we are on the go I just put the water in at room temp and then she is ready to eat I just dump the formula in from the container.

I think the 1 hr thing is once feeding begins from that bottle.

Nope. Formula, once mixed, is only good for an hour unless it is refrigerated (unused) within that hour.

  • My baby is on Nutrimigen which is not supposed to be warmed up, so she drinks them room temperature.  I have Tommee Tippee bottles and they have a really cool little container that goes inside the bottle that I fill with formula, then I fill the bottle with the purified water and it just screws into the bottle.  When it's time to feed her I dump the contents in and shake.  Super convenient.  My husband bought them for me and was so excited to find them.  Cute:)

  • We take bottles with us and put an frozen gel pack next to them while on the go. We also take a large-mouth thermos with boiling water in it. Then when we're ready to feed, we warm up the bottle in the thermos...or get a 1/2 cup of hot water from a coffee shop or restaurant. DD usually takes her bottle room temp or a little warm. We like to make sure the prepared formula is chilled and always make sure we use the bottle within an hour of warming - or discard it.
