Short birth story...thankfully it was relatively uneventful! I had contractions on Friday morning but they were gone before the NST I had scheduled in the afternoon. Went to the NST, everything looked good, they guessed her weight at 7 lbs 7 oz (+/- 1 lb). So we came home on Friday without a baby. Saturday morning I woke up at 4:00 with contractions, regular but not frequent enough to go to the hospital (about 7-10 minutes apart). As the day went on they kept coming but not a lot closer (6-8 minutes) but so much stronger that I started talking to DH about going in just to get checked out. I called my doctor - who was thankfully on call that weekend - and she said I can come in to get checked or wait until they get closer and come later. So we were leaning toward waiting when I got hit with one so painful I actually had to throw up, twice (there were three more in the hospital that made me throw up). That made up our minds! We went in and I was a 2 cm and fully effaced. I was admitted and put on monitors, contractions were still around 6-8 minutes apart but so painful and lasting around 90 seconds each. After several hours I opted for dilauted (sp?) and was finally able to relax a little. By 1:00 a.m. I was ready for the epi and it was administered around 1:30...after that I went from 6 cm to 9.5 and pushing in less than four hours!
Allison was born at 5:36 a.m. and weighed in at 6 lbs 4 oz and 19 inches long. She is so tiny and perfect!
Sleep has been hard to come by, I can't nap and she isn't a quiet sleeper at night! BFing is a lot harder than I thought it would be, Allison absolutely knows what she wants and when she wants it...
Overall, good experience and so worth it when I hold my little girl.
