Maternity leave after c-section

With my 1st c-section, my OB cleared me after 6 weeks and I was ready to return to work.  I've changed jobs since then, and my HR person can't give me a straight answer as to whether I get 6 or 8 weeks of paid leave after my c-section.  It appears that if I want longer than 6, I will have to take 1 week unpaid and then short term disability would kick in for the last week.  Since we'll still be paying for DD to be in daycare/pre-school during that time, I don't really want to take that 2 week pay cut.  Was your paid leave any different for a c-section than it would have been with a vaginal delivery?  Also, do all doctors clear you at 6 weeks (barring some other complication)? Thanks.

    I dont get any paid leave at all, but my Dr told me 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for c section.

    With my employer maternity leave is 6 weeks paid for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for C-section and I was allowed to take 12 weeks total and my job was kept safe.

    My work we get 1 week paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of STD (time is consecutive so the maternity leave is really useless). Our STD pays 100% for the first 4 weeks and then 75% for the last two weeks.  After that I am going to use 4 weeks of PTO so I will be home a total of 10 weeks.  

    Now if there was an issue and I wasn't released at 6 weeks then I could get more STD but of course at a percentage of my pay.  However, I was released by my doctor after 6 weeks with both my previous c-sections.

    I have to use vacation for the first week before my STD kicks in. Then my company pays STD which is like 60% and I have to use my vacation to make sure I get paid 100%. I don't have a choice. I would have gone 60% and saved some vacation time. My company does 6w vaginal and 8w c/s. With my first, since he didn't survive, I went back to work at 5 weeks. With Lucas, due to high anxiety, I went back after 9 weeks.

    I don't have paid leave, but I was cleared to return to work at 5 weeks.

    My company gives 6 weeks for vaginal delivery or 8 weeks for c-section. We have to cover the first week, whether it be unpaid leave or using PTO, and STD will pay for the remaining 5 or 7 weeks.

    It should be 8 weeks for a c-section. I don't know if it's paid, that's all based on your State and Employeer, but you do get 8 weeks.

    In the state of NJ its 6 weeks for vaginal and 8 weeks for a c-section. STD kicks in right away if your not using vacation time first. Then we we have an additional 6 weeks you can take thats a paid Family Leave Insurance program through the state so in total you can either get 12 weeks or 14 weeks. Standard STD covers at 60% and same with Family Leave.  It varies by state and employers I believe.

    NJ is definitely a cool state to work in, plus my company (huge company) has private disability insurance that pays 100% for up to 12 weeks I think??? (4 before, 8 after)  NJ gives you up to a max of 24 weeks of job protection through FMLA and NJFLA.  Not all of it is paid, but like PP said, 12-14 weeks are fully or partially paid.  Each state/employer is different.  If your company has under 50 employees then FMLA does not apply.

    My doctor cleared me at 8 weeks PP, but I didn't return to work until 13 weeks PP. 
    PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...
