baby nurses?

Did any of you hire a baby nurse to help out in the beginning?

My husband and I are trying to look into getting a baby nurse for our twins who are 8 weeks old just for a month or 2...until they sleep through the night so that we too can get some sleep. Has anyone done this and if so WHERE can I find one? I have no clue on how to go about hiring one or what they cost??

Thanks!

Re: baby nurses?

  • We thought about it but didn't end up doing it. Were your girls in the nicu? The nicu nurses gave us a name of one of their nursing techs that worked there sometimes and she wad in nursing school. You could also check with nursing schools and care.com

  • P.S.your girls are beautiful! I know this sounds weird but I think they kind of look like my girls-one of mine has more hair than the other.

  • i had a nurse for my DD and i lived in a small one bedroom apt at the time so while i loved having the help, it did feel cramped....

now that i live in a house with more rooms, yes we will be getting a nurse again. they are expensive but i would recommend doing it for as long as you can afford....it definitely will allow you to sleep the first few weeks and the nurse teaches you how to bathe, feed, get kids on a schedule etc.  it's a huge help and you and your husband can even sneak out one night and get something to eat!!!

i found my nurse through word of mouth ..start asking around....i hired her for two weeks but told her to reserve about a month's worth of time.

if you have any other questions let me know:)

  • We had a night nanny a couple of nights a week for a month. It was wonderful.  Our local twins club had recommendations, I asked around on a parenting list serv and you can also find childcare services that will place someone for you.  Good luck - I think having help is well worth it.

Thank you! Your LO's are so precious! :) Our Brynn definitely has the head of hair out of the two of them..even though they're fraternal..that's how all our relatives tell them apart. haha

Thanks. We live in a small 2 bedroom town house so I'm sure it will be crammed too, but were only looking for a "live out" nurse to help so that she can just come a few days a week for about a month or 2. So i can sleep and maybe even run an errand or two. What kind of hours did she work for you? I dont know what is too much or too little to ask of someone. I'm just now starting to ask around hoping to find someone soon!

  • Definitely ask your local multiples club, or ask around for a postpartum doula.  My friend does it and she is a lifesaver.  She not only takes over at night, but she does a ton of teaching as well as cleaning the house up.
  • We had a night nurse for 3 nights per week for the first 6 weeks. She came for 2 nights per week for another month or so. It was a gift from my parents - by far the best gift that we received. She helped us develop good sleep habits so our girls have been amazing sleepers from day one.
