Dairy free and WL Plateau

I recently figured out that DS is dairy sensitive so I cut out dairy since I'm BFing. Before cutting out dairy I was losing about 2 pounds a week with daily workouts and just eating healthy. Since cutting it out I have completely plateaued with my weight loss for the past 3 weeks. I'm wondering if my body is missing the protien or maybe I'm not getting enough calories? I eat pretty clean, so its mostly fruits, veggies, whole grain breads etc. sometimes whole grain pasta. I've also gone to more challenging workouts thinking maybe I needed to push myself, but nothing is making the scale move!

Any ideas on how to get the nutrients and protein I need? I'm not a huge fan of meat either, although I do eat it about once per day at dinner time.

I'm headed to Hawaii in two months and I still have 10 pounds to drop!

Re: Dairy free and WL Plateau

  • plateaus are normal in weight loss it may have nothing to do with your elimination of dairy.  all the personal trainers and nutritoinists I know say that if its a true weight loss plateau you have to go with it for a bit-eat to maintenance for 3-6 months (no one wants to hear that-i know) and then resume WL plan.  When I've hit plateaus I've focused on other goals-increasing my weight lifting to improve toning and definition and stregth for example.

  • You may not be getting enough calories. You can get the extra protein through eggs, nuts, beans.  Also you may need to spice up your work out routine a bit.  Try something different to exercise different muscles. :)

  • Focus on protein from other sources --- beans/lentils, eggs, nuts etc. As for WL plateau, give up ALL GRAINS and SUGAR and within a week you will see a HUGE difference in your weight loss -- it's really hard to give up all sugar and grains but load up on veggies, salad, nuts and real protein!
