2nd Trimester

Prenatal Yoga Video - Recommendations Please

I consider myself to be an intermediate/advanced level yogi and was looking for a video that would not be too boring/easy for me to practice along with during this pregnancy. I'd like to continue working on balance, flexibility, strength as well as learning the moves that will help during labor and recovery.

Thanks in advance for your input! I'm starting to seriously miss my practice and going back to my FAB yoga studio isn't an option anymore :(

  • I was doing the shiva rae one as well but since I moved back to my home town I started going back to the yoga studio. I do hatha, yin, and warrior yoga with some modifications, mostly from what I learned on the shiva rae DVD. Just stay away from twists, inversions, anyting laying on your stomach (obviously lol haha), deep back and forward bends. You can also go to the yoga journal.com. They have awesome sequences for prenatal yoga.

    Hope that helps!

Does anyone have a list of which poses are out?

  • I third the Shiva Rhea.  It's not only good yoga but very relaxing.  I just feel better doing a prenatal yoga dvd or class rather than worrying and trusting that I or the teacher will know what to do or not do.

You can google most of them. Absolutely no inversions like headstands, shoulder stands, arm stands, etc. The only safe inversion is downward dog but I would modify it to downward puppy (which is on your knees instead of your feet).

these websites should help sum it up. You can go to yogajournal.com and look at their posing lists to see which ones are inversions, backbends, etc. Thats what I did and it helped! :) GL and safe practicing!
