Pregnant after IF

Starting our registry this weekend (eeeek!) Any suggestions?

Any helpful tips or suggestions from those of you who have registered already?  I realize we won't get everything done in one trip, and I'm sure we'll edit things online over the next few weeks after our initial visit to the store, but still...I'm so excited!  I can't believe we actually get to register for BABY stuff.  There were many, many days I never thought we'd ever have a need for anything "baby" in our house while going through all the IF treatments.

So if you've registered and looking back said, "I wish I had known _____", please let me know!  Big Smile

Thanks!

  • We went to BRU one night and went around and scanned all kinds of things, then came home and read reviews on the brands/styles we had scanned and realized we need to change things....we've been adding/changing online pretty frequently.  We also registered at Buy Buy Baby, and we DID put duplicate stuff on there in case someone prefers one store over another or has a coupon or whatever.  DH has promised to be the designated registry-stalker to make sure we don't get 4 infant car seats etc.

  • it's so exciting!!! i'm still changing things on mine LOL

remember when registering for onesies, make sure to do a bunch in all different sizes, so that way you have clothes past the newborn stage lol

DH had fun test "driving" all the strollers lol it was a fun time! i'm actually dropping off my registry cards to my sister tomorrow she said she needs them, so i'm guessing there's shower planning going on woohoo! lol

have lots of fun!!!! and don't worry, you can always go back and change/update things that you forget, and most places give you a basic "guide" of essentials too!

    enjoy!!! :)

  • Would not survive without our Fisher Price Snuggabunny swing! It swings in different directions and 6 speeds. It has a moving mobile and mirror. Plays music and white noise. Best part....plugs into the wall so no batteries. Definitely agree with previous posters. I put duplicate stuff on different registries, stalked my registries, and changed stuff constantly as I did research and talked to friends. Also it's a good idea to put large items on there even if you don't think anyone will buy them because you will get the completion discount. Have fun!!!

  • There is a blog called Lucie's List and she has a great registry cheat sheet. I found this very helpful as it's overwhelming looking at all baby stuff. One thing I won't be registering for because I have a feeling we'll get a ton of are clothes, blankets and bath towels/washcloths.

  • Lessons learned from my first...

    • Don't get the bedding set.  Just get the accessories.  You're not going to use the diaper organizer, or the bumpers, and if you use the blanket it won't be till your LO is like 1 1/2 or 2.  It was just a complete waste of money for just the valence.  I could have just bought the sheets and the wall art and the night light and would have been more than fine
    • you can never have enough sheets (pack-n- play and crib) especially when the baby poops through their diaper or spits up (and this happens regularly!)  it just makes your life so much easier when you have at least 4 or so and that can last you a day.
    • Waterproof mattress pads are awesome (see above!) and so are the pads that go over the changing station.  make sure you get at least 2 mattress pads and like 6 changing pads becuase they pee, poop, and spit up a lot when they're little
    • Don't go crazy registering for washcloths and towels, you really only need  two of each - just accept the fact you're going to be doing laundary at first on a daily basis
    • A swaddle me or miracle wrap is key and will make your life so much easier than using a blanket to do it (it says much better!)
    • Definitely register for a swing.  DD would only nap in there until she started daycare at 3 months

  • My favorite non-standard baby products from DD's time as a newborn were

    (1) SwaddleMe velcro swaddling blankets (we had like 8 and used 2 at a time so that she wouldn't break free),

    (2) an exercise ball (much easier to hold her while on sitting on that then pacing up and down the hallways all night); and

    (3) an Angelcare Monitor (totally gave me peace of mind, I would have been nutso without it).

  • Our babies have loved:

    1)  Triple Fun Exersaucer-you can use it as a play mat first, exersaucer second, and a play item third.  It grows with them.

    2)  Halo swaddlesacks-we tried the swaddlemes, and they just outgrew them/they stopped keeping their arms in at night way too early.  We liked the access of the Halo ones as well.

    3)  Fisher-price kick and play piano-they LOVE it.  I just wish it had a plug (rather than batteries).

    4)  Fisher-price seahorse.  They both love them!

    5)  Pottery Barn hooded towels-they are well worth the extra money to get.  They just feel so much better than the ones sold elsewhere.

    6)  JJ Cole canopy cover- it covers the baby and it makes me feel a little bit better-people don't try and touch as much!!!

I'll try and see if anything else comes up that was outside of the recommended most people had!
