Amoxicillin & diaper rash

DD had her first ear infection this week; she's on day 3 of amoxicillin. While she seems to be feeling better, she now has a nasty diaper rash, worst she's had. It is making diaper changes torture because she screams.

Did anyone else experience this when baby was on amoxicillin? I'm putting Desitin on it and changing her diapers right away, but do you have any other tricks? I'm debating whether to call the pedi in the morning to see if there's any cream they can prescribe.

    I don't know if it's too late for this, but I gave my LO probiotics while he was on amoxicillin, and he didn't get any rash. 

    Other than that, try as much bare bum time as possible.

    All antibiotics can cause yeast rashes.Is the rash bright red and sort of pimply, like little dots? Is it spread around her butt, not just by her anus? If so, its probably yeast.

    DD had several yeast rashes as she was on antibiotics a lot over the past few months. But they never seemed painful. Still I wouldn't dismiss it. If its yeast, you need to get rid of it. Call your pedi and they might suggest a Rx called Nystatin. Its AMAZING! We use it every time we see the tiniest dot of red when DD is on antibiotics. It clears up the rash in a day or two. GL!

    Aquaphor helped a ton with C's antibiotic diaper rash.  It helps a ton with everything, though IMO :).

    Yeah, DD got the awful rash w/ antibiotics too. The nurse said the meds make poo really acidic and it was literally burning her bottom. She suggested probiotics (Florastor), gently using wet washcloths instead of wipes, and putting on a thiiiiick layer of diaper cream. Also, nakey time...

    DD refused the probiotics though. She didn't want anything other than BM straight from the tap. And I think she stopped trusting me when I had to hold her down and shove meds in her mouth.

    Anyway, it really just sucks.

    LO had an awful rash from amoxicillin. We tried everything and then the doc recommended blotting on maalox with triple paste on top.  It cleared up in two days!

    DD did the first few days. I was afraid it was yeast but it was not. I put her in sposies for 2 days with the Boudreaux Butt Cream and gave yogurt. It worked.

    Thanks! It is actually a bit better today, so I'm thinking it's not yeast. Still applying tons of Desitin, though, since we have a week left on amox.
