3 hr+ naps

Anyone's LO nap for 3-4 hours? My LO generally sleeps 11 hours at night with one wake up to eat, and then takes one really long nap each day, with the other two being 30-45 min. Sometimes he won't stay asleep for the long nap and will only do 3-4 45 min naps, but it seems like when he does sleep for longer it's never 2 hours always closer to 4.

I hate to wake him up because if he's sleeping that long he obv needs the sleep and other times it's so tough to get him to sleep that I don't want to deprive him. That said, I never seem to read about other LOs sleeping this long.

Not sure if it matters but he sleeps in his crib at night and usually naps in his swing. For the past week I've been putting him down for 1-2 naps a day in the crib, but the long nap is always in the swing and I usually turn it off after 2 hours. Thanks!

Re: 3 hr+ naps

  • My LO also takes a really long nap some days.  She sleeps well in her crib at night and usually sleeps in the swing for naps (on day's that she isn't in daycare.)  I turn the swing off after no more than one hour though.

I don't know if it's a problem but I was going to ask pedi about it next month.  DD#1 also always took a really long nap so I guess it's just what they need.

  • When LO isn't fighting naps she takes a 30 min to 1 hour nap in the morning and a 3 to 4 hour nap in the afternoon.  But the past 2 weeks she has been fighting naps so everyday is different lately.

She sleeps a total of 10 or 11 hrs at night and gets up once, twice or sometimes 3 times.

  • My DS usually sleeps from 1:30-4:05-ish like clockwork every day. His other naps are about 35-60 minutes long (Always in the morning time.) If he doesn't get that longer nap then he usually is up several times during the night. Remember sleep begets sleep. He will wake up if he's hungry or needs you. Every baby is different.
