Yesterday was my 38 week appointment. I wasn't going to have an internal exam done, but decided to one I talked to my nurse about my doctor possibly being able to strip my membranes. Unfortunately, I'm not as far progressed as he would like in order to do that. Although, I am dialated to a two and 30% effaced! ![]()
My doctor said that he could induce me next week if I wanted, but that he doesn't recommend it. He says he doesn't like playing God and I totally agree 100%! So, no induction for this Mamma. I'll probably go to 40 weeks, since I did with my first. So, hopefully next week I'll be farther progressed so he can strip my membranes and jump start labor naturally.
While I was talking to the nurse, she said that when my doctor strips most women's membranes, they leave the office crying, but go into labor 1-2 days afterwards. (It happened with both of her kids.)
My membranes were stripped with our first TWICE and it didn't do crap, so apparently, my previous midwife wasn't doing it correctly or to the right extent as my new doctor.
Anyways, this was just a little update to share with the world. I'm excited and confident in my choice. I love my doctor and am so glad that he's on the same page as me! Woo Hoo! ![]()
Re: 38 Week Appointment...
Kind of blows my mind that your doc would even say that he would induce at 39 weeks. Was there a reason he gave?
Mine won't even discuss it until at least 41 weeks unless there is a medical reason.
There seems to be a lot of inductions (is that the right word?) happening before 40 weeks, which I find very strange. My doctor won't talk about inducing until 41 weeks either, and I know a lot of my friends have gone right to 42 weeks before being induced.
He says it's because the baby is only gaining weight after the 37 week mark. He doesn't recommend it, but he was leaving the choice up to me. He understands how uncomfortable we get, and sometimes, are even in pain. He's a great doctor and if I had decided to get induced, I would be totally confident that he has our best interest in mind.
I've just heard how much harder induction deliveries are and I KNOW how HARD my first delivery was. Why would I want to put any more stress on myself or my baby?... Anywho... that was the reason behind him giving me the choice.
