1) I don't have any OB. I have seen an NP for my paps since high school. I know I don't need to find one right now, but with my u/s next week, I will soon. How do I go about finding one? There are a couple good hospitals near me. How do I tell which would be the best to deliver in?
2) Do I need to call my health insurance and tell them I'm pg? What about my PCP?
3) Is there any paperwork such things I should be doing?
I've been planning this pregnancy for over two years, but I never once thought of any of these questions.
Re: A couple newbie questions
1. you could ask your NP if she knew of an ob, or ask your re's office.
2. You don't have to tell them, the dr's office will do it- by the billing they send in to the insurance company.
3. I didn't They dr's office will usually help you right along.

You could try posting on your local boards on the Nest and the Bump and ask for recommendations for doctors and/or midwives and which hospitals are best to deliver at. Then check to see which are covered under your insurance policy. You usually don't need to notify your insurance, but definitely look into how much is covered so you can start planning for how much $ you're going to need out of pocket for labor and delivery.
For me, just for my peace of mind, it was important to make sure the hospital I deliver at had at least a Level II NICU on site (Level III would be even better, but that is like 45 minutes away by car unless there's a backup on the bridge, which happens often, and I didn't want to deal with trying to get there during labor if there was some traffic delay).
No need to call your PCP to let them know, just make sure if you have to go in for anything, you tell them then, so they don't prescribe you something that you shouldn't take during pregnancy. Also, let your dentist know ahead of your next cleaning appointment because some require a release from your OB saying that it's safe for you to get a cleaning. I learned that the hard way when I showed up for my cleaning and then had to scramble to call the OB to get them to fax over a letter saying it was ok. My OB recommended delaying any xrays until after the baby is born, unless they are absolutely necessary b/c of a cavity or something. Then they said to double-shield with the lead shield.
ETA: Also, call as soon as you can to schedule because some OBs don't have a lot of available appointments for new patients -- I've heard of people being scheduled a month or more out, even for pregnancy, so don't wait until your OB releases you.
1) I would ask your RE or your NP for any recommendations. Or talk to friends and family - this is how I picked my current OB.
2) No - I didn't call anyone to let them know. Your insurance will figure it out when they start paying claims.
3) I had to do a bunch of paperwork for my OB but they mailed me that to fill out when I made my first appointment. I'm sure you'll have to speak to your HR department eventually, if you're working. Mine just said to come back about a month before my maternity leave to fill out the paperwork though.
