  • definitely read the newbie links on the top of the board.

Also, theres a great series on youtube that helped me a lot. its a 7 part series (about 30 minutes total) that really goes over CDing in a very broad spectrum.

  • We switched when my son was a bit older, over 1 year.  I got most of my information from cottonbabies.com.  I use bumgenius diapers, and they have great deals on them.  My advice is to get a few different kinds.  When baby comes, you will get a good idea of what works for you.  I ordered some bumgenius 4.0 pockets, some econobum, and some flip.  I found that I really liked a pocket diaper best.  With a pocket diaper, there is a pocket your insert goes in.  You can choose from two different sizes of inserts and you can put more than one insert in for more absorption.  I felt they gave me the most flexibility and they were easy to put on my squirmy kid.  The bumgenius diapers, like others, are one size.  So you just change the snaps as baby grows.

I have 17 diapers.  I'm working my way up to 24 as baby #2 is on the way.  I think for a younger baby I would want more.  They get changed more often.  Also, you naturally have to change them more often in cloth.  That's a benefit.  Less risk for diaper rash.  My 18 month old goes 3-4 hrs between changes at this point.

Collect all the info you can, get a few different kinds, and try them out.  I have found it becomes second nature, and it's so much cheaper!!!!

  • www.cottonbabies.com and https://www.healthyheinysdiapers.com/ are pretty good websites to check out

Healthy Heinys has a good trial kit for $10 after you return the kit so you can see what's out there and what you might like before you spend any exuberant amount of money on a stash. Be warned, once you try it and like it, it's hard not to buy more. It's addicting. Good luck and happy clothing!

Extra tip: try to get cloth with snaps. They last longer and aren't as noisy when changing a sleepy baby in the middle of the night.
