I picked your recipe (winner, winner chicken dinner). It sounds delish and had the fewest ingredients that I had to buy at the store.
I just set my crockpot to cook for 4 hours. It started at 7 a.m. Theoretically it will be done cooking at 11 and automatically switch to "warm."
Considering the fact that I pretty much burn all weekday crock pot attempts (with old, non programmable CP) and the fact that this recipe will be "done" at 11 a.m. and we won't be home 'til after 5 p.m., I am freaking out that my house is going to burn down in the interim 6 hours.
Those with these smart Cpots, it'll be okay, right? No house burning down? No charred hunk of meat burned beyond recognition?

Re: omg, MC, I am freaking out.
ooooh! I was hoping you'd pick mine!!!!
I'm going to add to your freak. I would have never (ever) EVER used a brand new crock pot when having guests over. News you could have used yesterday?
Now, I'm going to take away your freak. That recipe is SO forgiving. Because the meat is in liquid, it will only become more tender through out the day. It'll be great. And, if it's not, whatever...who needs another cowboy named Keith in their life? Not this gal.
Butting in....
It should be fine, but... I live right down the street from you so I could always break in and turn the crockpot off if you need me to!
How is it NONE OF YOU thought this might be something I would need to know yesterday when I was all, "oh, fancy new crock pot, let's do this!"
Other fun things I learned in the last 24 hours:
1. Minced garlic is not in the spices aisle. Nor is it in the aisle with fancy jarred olives and snails and stuff. It's in the produce section. By the tomatoes. You know, because that's logical.
2. There are many types of red wine, not all of which are suitable for cooking with.

Shut up.
You guys are KILLING me.
I just got a $5 bottle of red wine. From the normal wine section.
That's fine. Most cooking wines are crap. Always better to use the real thing. Even better to use a really cheap real thing.
I bet it will be fine, but did you happen to see in your manual if there was a limit for how long you should keep food on warm. I don't have a fancy programmable, but mine is something like four hours. That's the only caution I'd have about it.
I did! It said it would automatically shut off after 14 hours. It also assured me, "your food won't burn!"
I'm pretty sure if my food burns I can sue them. Right, Rosie?
I'm trying to interpret the legal meaning of this gif, 'cause I've totally burned stuff in the crock pot before and I want in on this lawsuit.
yes but remember most are suitable for mass consumption to get you through dinner with the mother in law!
