Has your LO reacted to sound yet?

DH and I are doing some remodeling to our house before LO gets here.  We are replacing our nasty dog hair infested carpet with new laminate flooring!  Dream Home - St. James - 12 mmx5 1/4" HDF/Laminate (this is NOT my house -- but this is the floor that we are putting down)

Anyway - DH was in the garage just a little while ago while I was home on lunch break and was cutting some plywood for the stair facings.  As soon as he turned on the saw to cut the wood, I immediately felt baby react -- it was almost like he jumped.  I told DH about it and now I'm not allowed around the powertools any more ;)

Re: Has your LO reacted to sound yet?

  • Definitely. Baby always reacts when his older sister is crying/screaming, etc. Sometimes it works out well as it's a good way to get her to calm down and feel the baby...not sure if she quite understands it though.:) Of course, I'm finding this little boy is sensitive and always moves away from pressure (ie doppler at appt yesterday), sounds, and movement. Not sure what this all says about life after he's born!Tongue Tied

  • Love that flooring!

On V Day when my DD was bouncing off the walls squealing from all the candy she had eaten at school, Rosalie would almost jump when she got really loud. Juliana would do the same thing. She is still very sensitive to really loud noises. My cousin attended races (stock car....her brother is a Whelen racer) her whole pregnancy and her son doesn't flinch at even the loudest of noises.

  • For awhile now.  When I read my kids books at night, this kid gets super active.  I think s/he likes the "mommy" voice that I use when I read books.  I've felt the baby react to both of my kids talking.  And, this kid is super active when I'm in meetings when my boss talks!  It's so weird, but funny!

  • I recently went to a karaoke bar (tacky I know) for my husband's army unit's party and it was sooo loud but the only time LO would jump or squirm is when my DH would raise his voice to be heard over the music. It was so funny, a friend of ours noticed it after an hour. Even lately right before bed when my husband talks to her she squirms and kicks like crazy.

  • The other night some people were walking by our house in the middle of the night and my three dogs went nuts barking...I felt her kicking right away! Hope she's getting used to the sound of dogs barking in there :)

  • I love the flooring! Lo goes crazy when DH talks. We have been on opposite schedules for the last few months, so when we do get to spend time together and she hears him she goes nuts. I think it really is the cutest thing ever. Other than that nothing phases her LOL.
  • Yep. Not always, but sometimes a loud noise will startle her. A couple weeks ago, H was doing jumping jacks in the living room (wood floor) while I was on the couch, and I don't think she was a fan of that. lol
  • Funny you  mention the flooring noise! My DH put in new wood floors into her room on Saturday and when he was making some of the cuts on the wood it was really loud and she reacted. But normally I haven't noticed a specific pattern related to noise.

This!  Only baby is reacting to big brother crying.  I never noticed it until my NST on Tuesday.  Every time DS was complaining (okay throwing a fit) because he was stuck in the stroller this LO would move and squirm and I would have a contraction.

FWIW, I think when I was pregnant with DS we were around some loud noises and to this day he sleeps through the fire alarms at daycare.

Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.

  • I am home by myself most of the day and besides the occasional sound of the television in the background LO isn't around much loud noises. Tonight however I was out for my Dh's work function and the music started blaring off the speakers and the baby definetly had a little freakout moment of super hard and painful kicks.
  • I woke up a couple minutes before the alarm went off, so when it went off, I felt Abigail jump. It was really cute! :)
