bleeding in first tri?

With my 2 year old, I had some spotting throughout my first tri, but the other night, I experienced some true bleeding (bright red, a clump of tissue on the pad). I went in the next AM for an ultrasound and both sacs were there and fine. RE says that we need to wait it out. Still bleeding off and on.

Did anyone experience this early in the first tri? (I'm 6 weeks)

Re: bleeding in first tri?

  • I had bleeding in first tri also. I had it around 4wks and then again at 6wks. Had my u/s at 7 wks when it showed twins. They couldnt really find a reason for the bleeding, just said it was possibly implantation. I havent had any since. Hopefully its nothing and goes away.

  • I was in the ER at 6w, 7w, and when I had another big bleeding incident at 8w, I didn't bother going in since I knew they couldn't do anything for me.  I was soaking multiple (overnight absorbancy) pads in an hour.  During the 7w incident, I passed a clot the size of my palm.  I was so terrified it was one of the embryos that I took a picture of it to bring to the hospital.  The specialist (nearest one is 8 hours away) diagnosed me with an SCH.

I'm 17w now and both babies are fine.

I know it's scary.  Hang in there.  I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope your bleeding is just the babies snuggling in there and getting established.

  • I had bright red bleeding at 10 weeks due to a sub chorionic hemorrhage. It was just one time but it was very scary! Everything turned out just fine. Sending T&P your way!

  • I also bled from weeks 6-10 because of an SCH.  It was a lot, and bright red, and i was scared like crazy, but both babies were totally fine!

My RE also said that both IVF and multiples increase the odds of having an SCH, and the way for an SCH to resolve is to either absorb back into the ute or bleed out, although the likelier is to bleed out.

    Hang in there! Hugs.

  • I had bleeding at 8 weeks, at this time we thought I was pregnant with 1 baby :-) I went in for an U/S and I had 1 sac and 1 heartbeat, and a hematoma- which caused the gush of blood.  I went back in at 12 weeks to have it checked and that is when we saw 2 babies.  We ended up having no trouble with the hematoma but the Dr did say they can happened more often with twins.

Good luck & praying for the best!

  • i bled my whole first trimester....bright red a few times and each time scared the crap out of me...i did have a small SCH so that was prob not helping!  just keep going in when you have a lot of bleeding so they can check things out....it is def. more common with multiples!!

  • I had bleeding episodes starting somewhere between 6w and 7w and continued through my first trimester. We eventually found a cervical polyp that was irritated by the progesterone suppositories I was using. We know that caused some of the bleeding but not all. Hope your bleeding resolves itself and lets you relax a little bit.

  • I went to the ER for bleeding at around 6 or 7 weeks  (it was like a really heavy period, and I bled through my pants).  I cried the entire way to the ER because I swore that I had lost one or both babies, but everything looked fine.  I spotted off and on until 9 weeks, and nobody ever knew why, but it stopped as soon as I graduated from the RE.  Both babies are still here, though.  I hope everything works out ok for you.  I know it's really scary.

  • I had a great big bleed with clumps and all at 11 weeks.  Babies were, thankfully, just fine.  My OB said it was fairly common.  At your next u/s, you can ask them if you still have any blood in your uterus and if you might have additional bleeding.  If it isn't huge, it generally is okay, which seems crazy to me.  And along with no cramping, etc.

  • The first trimester I did bleed a little on and off because I had a think called a subchorionic bleed. IT ended up going away on it's own, but I was put on Pelvic Rest until it did and told to not push myself too hard.

  • For what it's worth, I experienced a very scary and very short bout of bleeding at 4 weeks. I woke up at 6 am to brown blood...tried not to freak out, figuring it was old implantation blood. By the time I got to work at 8 am, it was a LOT of bright red blood. By 10 am when the doctor called me back, it was all gone. It was the strangest thing. I don't know what it was and it never happened again. I had a tiny bit of almost imperceptible spotting until 8 weeks, but it was never more than that. I'm 13 weeks today with twins.
