We had the U/S tech write down what we were having and seal it up for us so we could do the whole "gender reveal cake" when the family comes to town this weekend.
After the scan was over we sat there talking to the tech for a few minutes and she slipped and said "her" referring to our baby... hubby and I both caught it...so we are pretty sure the cake is going to be pink.
We both have assumed from the start it was a girl since hubby is a football coach and the "Coach's Curse" says you always have a girl first...but I was holding out hope it could be a blue surprise.
Re: Didn't want to know...but found out
i have to tell DH about the "coach's curse" thing- lol. DH is a college baseball coach. he will get a kick out of it.
It's possible she slipped, but it's possible she just refers to babies as girls. We had 11 ultrasounds with our son (we were team green) and found that all techs refer to babies in different ways. Most said "he", some said "it" or "baby", and a couple said "she". Of course, some of these ultrasounds were before they could tell the sex, but a majority were after they could tell and the pronoun was always different depending on the tech.
The first couple times we thought the tech had slipped, but we were never sure. Due to a genetic condition our son has we knew there was about a 70% chance of having a boy anyway, but we still wanted it to be a surprise.

That's too bad she slipped but like PP have said, maybe that's what she does to refer to babies in general. I noticed that many of the sites and books about stages of babies, they tend to use the pronoun "she" more often than "he." My doc was funny. He stopped short of saying something about the anatomy scan and I figured it was gender so I reassured him that we knew the gender.
Regarding girls, my cousin said for our family, it's called "Grandma's blessing" because she only had boys and then her 5 boys all had boys to start off and us girls were the last born in each little subfamily but 4 of the 5 all had a girl! My uncle Francis never had kids but spoiled all of us instead. I wonder if he would have been the one who only had girls. Anyway, of the cousins who have reproduced thus far, we've all had girls first. Hence, the blessing from Grandma.
