Re: Wednesday Brag Post

  • Nate is still experiencing a signing explosion. In the past two weeks I have been able to add the following to his "list" bringing his grand total to more than 25....

    night, night

goat (a very useful sign, I assure you....)

    grapes

hug & bear (basically the same sign)

    cow (needs to be verified)

He is also participating more in "conversation" by nodding his head when he agrees with me. It is soooo cute.

I also think he said "camera" (CAH-MA) on Monday, but I need to verify this as well. (He has way more signs than spoken words)

  • Amelie is doing so well lately. She is saying bye bye, uh oh, more, and baby. Today during speech we were trying to get her to copy us shushing her baby doll to sleep. She did it but then crawled off. I thought she was bored with the game, but she was going to get a blanket and came back to cover baby up! I feel like her play skills are really expanding.

We also have a new physical therapist. She specializes in vestibular disorders and has some new exercises for us to try. Amelie is desperate to walk so I'm hoping this will help her overcome her balance issues!

  • We dedicated Lilith at our church this past Sunday.  I also gave my service on what it means to be the parent of a child with special needs (see post above).  It is traditional that at the end of the dedication the entire congregation claps.  Well, when the congregation clapped Lilith winked, like she knew they were all clapping for her.  It was too cute.

  • We had DD1's v-day party yesterday, and one of her therapists told me that she's starting to advocate more for herself with the other kids (that's mine; you took my toy; etc.). She's always been very passive, so this is good news!

She did great at gymnastics class this week. Last week, she was all over the place, disruptive/cutting in line, basically acting as if the other kids and teacher didn't exist, not listening -- I wanted to cry and wondered if it was the wrong place for her. But this week was SO much better in terms of her actually participating in the class.

She was crying today in the car on our way back from therapy because her Rapunzel water bottle had fallen on the floor and I couldn't reach it while driving -- but even though she was really upset, she still passed another sippy to Elsa, and split her cereal bar in half to share with her little sister. My sweet girl!

  • Liam has CP and has been having specialized massage therapy and the chiropractor since 4 months or so. He had a bad visit with the chiropractor once well over a year ago but yesterday for the first time in more than a year he cried during my adjustment only and then was a trooper when it was his turn. So proud I my little boy!
  • Can I add my Thursday morning brag? :-)

DS went pee on the potty for the very first time this morning!!! I'm sure he didn't really realize what he was doing/did, and it only happened because I sat him on the potty right after he woke up (he didn't ask to go), but still, yay!!
