How long do you let LO go between feedings during the day?

Yesterday DS took a really long nap (well, long for him) that was close to 2 1/2 hours. I ended up waking him because it had been 4 1/2 hours since his last feeding. How long do you let your LOs go between feeding? I'm hoping he was going through a growth spurt because he slept a lot yesterday and didn't really seem to want to eat all day. Sad

  • I usually just go by her queues. If she doesn't really act hungry I don't feed her but she's never gone past 5 hours unless it's the long stretch at night. If she's acting ill or is really sleepy though I try to feed her every 2 hours because I'm just paranoid and I want to make sure she's well hydrated if she is ill.

  • My lo eats every 3 1/2 to 4 hours...usually no longer than 4 (at night she is STTN). She gets 6 oz (about 30 a day).
  • I still feed on demand but LO eats about every 3 hours. If he is sleeping a little longer (he tends to have 1 longer nap every day) I just let him sleep. If he has gone longer than about 4 1/2 or 5 hours to eat then I stop being quiet haha and hope that he wakes up by himself.
  • My LO goes about 4-5 hours between feeds.  She is breast fed and supplemented with 2 oz of formula.  She is also about 12 lbs.  I let her queue me.  The pedi said we don"t have to wake her anymore.

This exactly...I open his door so my noise generally wakes him up.

  • She rarely goes past 2-3 hours (during the day, she STTN) but sometimes if we are out or something she will go 5-6 and I don't worry about it because she will make up for it later she always eats about 25-30oz/24 hours.

  • LO is on a 3 hour schedule. He eats every three hours, with his last feeding at 7:30 PM. He STTN 8:30 PM-7:30 AM consistently. Occasionally, if he is still sleeping really heavy at the 3 hour mark, I'll let him keep sleeping, but he's usually awake and ready to eat no longer than 15 minutes past that 3 hour mark.

  • I let her go as long as SHE will let me, lol. She doesn't usually go past 4 hours unless she's sleeping (rare during the day for her to sleep longer than 30 min).

  • On growth spurt days my DS usually sleeps about 18 hours waking long enough to eat about 3 to 4 times during that period. He usually eats a lot though the 24 hours before that sleep time, usually every 2-2.5 hours.

I think that babies will wake themselves up if they are hungry and that their is really not a reason to wake them up now that our babies are older. But that's just my opinion. Just be prepared to nurse a while if you BF or gulp down his bottle of formula when he wakes up.

  • I try not to let her go past 4 hours. She usually won't and if she does I have to watch her because it usually means her reflux is flaring up (she starts to refuse to eat and won't cry to be fed when her reflux gets bad).

  • My son (EBF ) usually wants to eat every 2-3 hrs. I would not let him go more than 4.

  • Since I know he can go up to 9 hours at night without eating I've never worried if he goes 4-5 hours during the day. He usually eats every 3 hours, but sometimes it will stretch to 5 if he has a long nap.
