I got a Medela PISA pump for $7.66 thanks to insurance!

All I did was call my insurance, they cover 85% of the cost its considered durable medical equipment. I had to ask my doc to write a perscription for it, and that was all! Yesterday, we faxed off the script to the place my insurance had given me and it was delivered to my door today! Because my deductable had been met all I needed to pay was a whopping $7.66!

I highly suggest calling your insurance company and asking! I got a $300.00 (BRU price) double elec pump for under $10. Good luck ladies! Hope this helps someone!!

  • I need to just call. I keep assuming they "probably won't cover that sort of thing" but ya never know until you ask!!!

  • Lucky you! I called and the only time it would be covered is if baby had to stay in the hospital longer than me. So stupid.
  • That's an awesome deal!  I have a PISA from when I had DD.  At the time, my insurance didn't cover it, even though my doc gave me a script for it.  Just last year the Washington laws changed and now all insurance companies in WA have to consider breast pumps durable medical equipment.  So this time it will be covered.  I think I'm going to get a new one since after all the hospital bills my max OOP will be met for the year and it won't cost me anything.  I can sell or give away my old one.  I only used it for 12 weeks, and I loaned it to someone who used it for a few months, so it's still in really good shape.

  • Yay for good insurance coverage! My PISA will be covered at 90% by my plan, so I'll pay about $30 OOP.

Can you point me in the direction of proof of this? I live in WA state and when I called United Healthcare the woman told me flat out no, breast pumps aren't covered. I'd love to have some proof when I call back to try again!

  • For me I have to meet a $300 deductible first - it's like they thought this one through long and hard and made sure to pick an amount where no women could get a breast pump covered

  • I'm really glad you posted this.  I just checked online, and it looks like my plan covers 50% of cost for durable medical equipment.  I will definitely be calling later to confirm.

  • Also glad you posted this! I called and my insurance does cover it as long as it's considered "medically necessary"....wondering if my doc and can write me a script for it *fingers crossed*!
