Need advice on which baby wrap to buy

I did a lot of research and was planning to get the Beco Butterfly II. I want to avoid the Bjorn because I've heard it's uncomfortable and I also want something that will work well for both my DH (6'1" and 260 lbs) and me (5'4" and 115 lbs). The problem is that we are on a tight budget and the beco is pretty pricey. I am wondering if we should go for a wrap instead, such as the moby. The only thing holding me back is that we live in LA where it gets HOT in the summer and I am a little worried that all that fabric wrapped tightly around us will make us hot and sweaty. Any advice on wraps that are very breathable?  Other suggestions are welcome too. Thanks!

Re: Need advice on which baby wrap to buy

  • I LOVE my Becco Butterfly II.  I think it was worth every penny.  I also have some wraps.  It all depends on what you want.  I tend to throw on my Becco more b/c it is so easy to put on.  I do love wraps for little babies. (although I've never used my Becco for a newborn)  I love how easy it is to get the baby on my back with my Becco.  If you're looking for a breathable wrap, I hear Vatani's are good although I've heard mixed things about how supportive they are for some carries.

ETA:  The Moby is wonderful for the newborn phase but isn't the best as the baby gets older because it is so stretchy.  Are you planning on babywearing past the newborn stage?  I did find my Moby to be incredibly hot.  I have been looking at the Gypsy bali stretch for the newborn phase because it is lighter weight and still stretchy which is perfect for newborn cuddles.  If you're looking for something for the long haul, I would look into the Gypsy bali breeze or a vatani.  I also found the Becco Butterfly to be good even when it was warm out.

  • We have the baby bjorn and moby.  DH uses the bjorn a lot and I also like it go to to the grocery store or run errands.  The thing I like is that it is very easy to get DD in and out of it.  It does get a little uncomfortable after a while and I don't like that her legs just dangle, so we try not to have her in it for too long.

I love the moby and I definitely don't use it enough.  It does get stretchy after a while, and I could see that it might get a little warm, but it covers enough that you could just wear a light t or tank top underneath.

  • 1) Are you in LA or San Diego?  Because the weather can definitely vary between the two.

    2) When are you due?

One of my best friends had her baby in July and could use the Moby until September when it got too warm.  Now she could wear it, but her baby is too big/heavy.

I had my son in October and still use the moby daily.
