Dear Bump: You suck.

Re: ***First Year Check-In***

  • QOTW:  gosh, nothing right now!  Well, I got a new haircut with bangs before Christmas and have gotten lots of compliments, and I also got a Brazillian Blowout, so now I don't have to straighten my hair!  Other than that, totally not feeling beautiful since having her!

Update:  We had her 9 month appointment yesterday (during her valentine's party at school, which was a bummer).  She's huge.  The doctor even kind of laughed and said "most kids start falling in % around 7-8 months, but she just keeps going up!"  She did get a lot taller too (went from 50-75% to 90-97%).  Stats were:  23#15oz (>97%), 29'', and 42cm head (I think - it was also 90-97%).  Everything else went well too.

On her 9-month bday (Saturday), she started crawling and also learned how to go from belly-laying to sitting, which made sleep hell.on.earth all weekend.  She finally learned on Sunday night how to go from sitting to laying, so now when she sits up, she can put herself back down, so sleep is ok again.

I also posted an awesome kissing picture of her and her bf, Evan, on fb today.

  • QOTW: Y'alla re going to laugh, but I ordered Cindy Crawford's Meaningful Beauty. I didn't previously have a skin care routine. In the 2 weeks I have been using it, I am absolutely amazed at the texture of my skin. I love it. I need to get my brows and nails done this weekend, though. I'm starting to resemble Chewbaca and no amount of skin care can help that.

Oh, and exercising makes me feel better too. It certainly makes me stand up straighter.

Update: Pink Eye. That's what Sparky got for Valentines day, so we were in the pedi's office yesterday morning. We caught it early though so he is responding quickly to the drops and was back at daycare that afternoon. He came home with candy.. some from a 5mo girl. ::facepalm::

Our trip to the pedi (19lb 4 oz OMFG what happened to my preemie?) was pretty uneventful with dealing with his rash though. It was particularly angry yesterday and his diaper rash actually bled. Pedi said the skin rash was probably just plain old excema and not related to something he ate/drank, but it has gotten worse as he has weaned and taken in more formula than BM. So we switched to soy formula yesterday and as of today, I get no more sugar (personal goal) OR dairy since he still nurses in the morning and I pump once at work. His rash was much less angry this morning.

  • QOTW:  Umm..........I feel pretty good about myself when we go somewhere on the weekend and I shower (with hair washing) and put on something other than stretchy pants.

Updates:  He is kind of starting to sit up on his own.  Not for very long, and he's not catching himself when he falls because he is too busy holding on to whatever toy is in his mouth at the time.  He's eating lots and so far loves carrots, sweet potatoes and oatmeal.  Peas and bananas are just 'meh'.  He learned how to pop my bra strap while nursing in the middle of the night the other night.  That was funny, and a little painful.  Now he just loves doing it and he's often too quick for me to stop him.  He'll be rubbing my chest very sweetly, then BAM!  Grab, pull and pop before I can take a breath.  OH!  The biggest thing is that we have two teeth!!  They are very small still, but it looks like one has broken completely through the gum and the other is about half the way through.  I signed him up for swim lessons and they start this weekend.  DH and I are really excited about it, but I'm a little nervous since the class starts at his recent weekend nap time.

I've decided to stop reading posts on here about sleep training and I feel much better about his sleep now.  So often I get caught up in what everyone else is doing and feel like I should be doing that, too, or DS should be doing this or that.  I need to relax and just focus on DS and our family.  Everything is working out fine for us at the moment so I'm just going to go with it.  DH and I are happy and most importantly, DS seems happy and is thriving.  He slept great last night, woke up twice, and went back to his own bed.  I'm going to do my best not to post silly sleep questions, too, which will give Rssn a break from making me feel better about everything.  :-)

  • QOTW: i got my brows waxed and toenails done last week. so much easier to pay for someone else to do it professionally because i sure don't make the time or effort to do it myself.

Update: DS rolled over from back to belly yesterday!!! i also see him hiking his butt up in the air when he's on his belly. crawling is a while away, but he's building up the muscles he'll need eventually. we're still working on sleeping. he gave us an awesome night last night, but i'm not holding my breath that the 4MW is over.

that's a good idea. i get super worried when every person at work (and relatives) asks if DS is sleeping through the night yet, as if by 4-ish months, he should be out cold for 12 hours a night. i wonder if they completely forgot when their kids gave them hell as babies because surely not every baby sleeps through the night from 2 months on.

Oh girl you know they did!  I've already forgotten the pain of labor and that was only 6 months ago.  Ha!!  You make a good point, I don't talk about sleep with work people anymore, either.  If they ask I just say it's fine.  A guy that sits near me has a boy 2 weeks older than Felix and of course this kid has been sleeping like a champ for months now....or so he says.  He's probably going through the same craziness as we are but won't say it.  ;-)

  • QOTW: Good question! Ummm....nothing. The only thing making me feel good about myself right now is some good chocolate and tea I get to have now and then.

    Updates:

DS is sleeping more at night and we've mastered nursing in the bed without getting up, which is really nice. We saw the pedi for reflux and are trying Zantac for 2 weeks. I feel like it is helping already, but maybe he is outgrowing his reflux already. Either way, I'm optimistic his fussiness will improve soon. He has a cold now, as does the whole family. I'm hoping it doesn't turn into anything serious.

  • QOTW: I got a shorrrrrt hair cut (well, super short for me anyway) a couple of weeks ago. I like it because I actually blow dry my hair every morning now since it only takes 5 minutes rather than rolling to work with my long hair wet and just wearing it up in a bun all the time. Other than that, I don't feel super beautiful right now. No time to work out leaves me feeling blagh about my body. I really am looking forward to DS being older, weaned, sleeping normally, etc., so that I can figure out how to fit working out back into my life.

Updates: he's been healthy for a week!! (knocking on all wood in sight) The last of the 4-at-once teeth is about to break through. He's signing. He's talking (I don't want to talk about it). Tonight I caught a glimpse of him standing without holding onto anything (I really don't want to talk about it). Overall, my little happy man just amazes me every day. Now if I could just get him to sleep soundly. Sigh.
