The Pregnancy Journal is awesome- it gives you a day-by-day guide about how the baby is growing, plus tips for mom. A funny one is A Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy, which is quite candid.

I love "Your Pregnancy Week by Week". Informative and an easy, interesting read.
Agree. What to expect when you are expecting gives a lot of "worst case" which freaked me out with my 1st.
I have Your Pregnancy Week by Week so that we can read about the different stages the baby is going through. The doula that is teaching our Hypnobirthing Class does NOT recommend What the Expect When you are Expecting. It scares people is what I've heard. I would buy her something more upbeat!
i also love 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week'. My H and I read it together weekly
I actually dislike 'What to expect when you're expecting'. There is some good info in there, but i find it difficult to navigate, it just has no sensible order, and I find myself skimming a lot. Also there is less weekly info then in the other so it is not as enjoyable as a together read.

I read both WTE and Pregnancy Week by Week. I like WTE because it is like a Q&A. It never freaked me out because I did not find it alarmist. I just like to be informed of the good and the bad. Pregnancy week by week is easy to read. It is nice to see the illustrations.
During Pregnancy: While Waiting The Miracle of Birth - Visual Guide to Pregnancy & Childbirth The Pregnancy Diet Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn - The Complete Guide
Labor/Delivery: The Birth Partner Birth Reborn (in regards to natural, med-free childbirth) Mothering the Mother
Breastfeeding: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
Yes, I am becoming a pregnancy library. Hope this helps.
My recommendation is Great Expectations, which is only available at Barnes & Noble .... it's a big, blue book and it ROCKS.
DITTO - LOVED Great Expectations.
My doc asked if I had WTEWYE, and if I did, to throw it out!
After three years TTC, four IUI's plus 2 cancelled, MFI (morph, motility, count), maternal age (40 as of 5/12) & former endo, we're moving to IVF spring 2012 (good/avg AMH and FSH). We did beat the odds once, however. DD born after 2 years TTC with clomid and no monitoring at my age 35. Doctors are SHOCKED we were able to conceive. Here's hoping for another miracle.
I really like WTEWYE. I'm not sure what edition the other ladies and doctor's are talking about, but I have the 4th edition and find it quite informative. I've read over half the book and nothing is freaking me out. I also like While Waiting and Your Pregnancy Week by Week.
Due to great reviews, I recently purchased the Mayo Clinic's Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. Although WTEWYE has been noted as the pregnancy bible and "must read", I read some really bad reviews on it. I hear it's a little on the negative side...which is not what I wanted at all. My friend is reading WTEWYE and is paranoid 24/7. Not my idea of fun.

I love What to Expect when Expecting.
The *only* problem I have with it is that its a little conservative.
I really like it. I do not like What to Expect because it is hard to read the way it is laid out.
Thanks ladies! I think I'm gonna order my friend "What to expect when you are expecting"

Ditto this. I love my Mayo Clinic book too. It is really informative.
