Who has seen the Babies documentary?

I watched it last night!  All 4 babies were so cute.  And it was really astonishing seeing the cultural differences in how children are raised.  DH wants to send our kid to Namibia or Mongolia now so they can learn to be more independent.  LOL

  • Yep I saw it and liked it! I felt bad for the American baby though lol

  • I downloaded it off of itunes when it came out. It is pretty darn adorable and opens your eyes to how others live. For example, the baby in Mongolia stays alone in the home, tied to a bedpost, watched by a chicken! I bet that wouldn't fly around here! Lol.

  • I remember watching it way before I was pregnant.  I thought it was cute, and loved seeing how different cultures raise babies.

  • I loved this movie. The Mongolian baby's big brother cracked me up the whole way through!

  • The thought of getting on the back of a motorbike after my tailbone-bruising labor and driving off road made me want to double over in pain!

    Me too!

To the PP, it's out as a DVD. I know that it was available to rent at movie stores and Redbox had it a while back. You might be able to find it online also.

I loved watching the various babies grow up. Seeing the other cultures and how differently they interact and raise their babies, in the conditions they raise them, it really made the American raised baby look way sheltered. All of the babies were adorable and it was fun to watch them go through typical kid developments in various cultures.

As for shock value, I think the Mongolian one was the most shocking. Between the livestock, the unsupervised outdoor play on tractors, and Mom's riding across fields a day after giving birth (yowch!)

  • I thought it was cool that not all of the babies were coddled so much as we are used to.  When they cried, they were left alone to entertain themselves instead of being picked up and comforted immediately.  And not that I want my kid to eat dirt, but hey - it won't kill them and getting a little messy outside never hurt anyone.  I'd never let my kid drink out of a stream though - I know way too much about fecal bacteria and what it can do to you from my line of work.  Stick out tongue

I definitely feel this. I watched this for the first time in an ECE class and a good lot of the class was disgusted or gasping at some scenes. I think it's amazing how differently the children adapt to their unique environments. All of those babies were happy and healthy. Got to love the little tot running around pants-free in the windy field.

  • That used to be a favorite of my daugher's. She loved watching it over and over and over again.
