Austin Babies

rolling over....

DD has rolled over twice now (both tummy to back)- the first time was around 11 weeks and again this past weekend. She'd probably would have done it more by now but I slacked on tummy time when she was colicky (sp?) so I'm trying to put more effort toward that now.

When did your DC start rolling over regularly?

tummy to back?

back to tummy?

Re: rolling over....

  • Um, yah. She's doing darn good! My DD was a laaate roller. She was so ahead of the game on other milestones, I thought she'd never roll over! She sat up and crawled loong before she could roll over. Anywho, she finally rolled over (for real) the day before her 6 month appointment. I think your DD is right on schedule, if not ahead of it!

  • Wow - 11 weeks? DD started both at around 16 weeks. We were visiting family for Christmas vacation and she did it while everyone was sitting around talking. We all saw her trying and started cheering her on - it was great! I thought it was a pretty big milestone, so congrats!

Well when I thought her fussiness was gas I continued with it because I read that pressure on the tummy would help it but when I found out it was colic I didn't do it as much because pressure in this case isn't a good thing. I try not to leave her laying down all the time though...if she is awake I'll hold her and interact with her (hello Sprout channel!) or I try her bouncer or walk around the front yard....I definitely try to stay aware of how much I am leaving her laying in 1 position thanks to everyone's experiences on here.

She gets excited when I change her diapers and I didn't mark it down in the baby book or anything as to not jinx it but I think she got so excited after a diaper change (I usually roll her over for some tummy time since she is already happy) and just start flopping her legs that she rolled herself over- I don't think she knows what she did or how she did it. I was cracking up at her.

  • Regularly? Not until like 10 months. She never rolled back to belly at all until 9 months. But DD has very mild hypotonia, so that's why she was later than normal.

  • Tummy to back was probably 10-11 weeks as well. Back to tummy she's about to do right now, she just needs to move her arm out of the way

  • My little guy rolled over (tummy to back) for the first time at 3 weeks 4 days! For serious! I think he propelled himself over by sheer force of rage.  He didn't start doing it regularly until recently, like 15 weeks or so.

My little girl rolled over the first time around 14 weeks, but still doesn't do it super regularly.  They're 17 weeks old now.

  • Ellie rolled (mostly by accident) for the first time when she was 5 months.  She didn't start regularly rolling until she was 8 months.

you're fine.  they don't even consider rolling a milestone anymore.

  • Hmm..5ish months I think. DD was never a big roller. She would pretty much stay still until she started crawling at 8.5 months..ahhh..those were the days. Wink
  • I don't recall the exact months anymore but Emily was already rolling around that age, army crawled at 6 months and was walking at 8 months. Make sure anyone who takes care of her knows how mobile she is. People have a tendency to assume a baby that age will stay where they put them (couch, changing table etc)

But she may never do it again for another couple months. I do recall Abby spontanously rolling a few times before the usual months and then didn't do it consistantly until super late. Tummy to back is easy because of the way babies are shaped and that question mark shaped stretch they do!

  • Sparky has still never rolled tummy to back. He just lays his head down when he's tired. We slacked on tummy time at home though, because he was a puker, and every time I laid him down, he puked. Like a lot. and then cried. They did it at daycare, though. He has to go to PT now for an imbalance in his neck muscles (except I forgot he had PT today and skipped the appt. Bad mommy!).

He has rolled back to belly once for me and a couple times at daycare. But he has no interest in being on his stomach, so there is no incentive for him. he can twirl himself around on his back until he reaches what he wants. Coordination is not really a strong point in either my or DH's family, though.

Oh, and he'll be 7m next week.

Don't worry, I just teasing Stick out tongue "They" think most of Liv's flat head was geneticstarted before birth. Especially if she's rolling already, she'll have a nice round head!
