Any tips for getting the kids to behave while you are jogging with them. I have 3 1/2 year old twin girls and lately they have been such a pain when I have them in the jogger. I end up more stressed when I run than if I didn't run at all. They are constantly picking at each other or yelling at each other or taking off their shoes and throwing them on the ground and I am ready to rip my hair out after 20 minutes into the run. And then the whining starts and the "I wanna get out." I have always used my jogger with them and have loved being able to get out and run, I hate running on a treadmill at the gym. I am now at the point where I don't run at all anymore and I just go to the YMCA for my cardio and leave them at the "kids zone" so I can have some peace and quiet while I am biking or incline walking.
Oh and my DH is only home 3 days a month, so I have to take them with me when I run outdoors. Am I just doomed and need to give up on running until my DH moves home in 19 months? Would love some helpful tips.
Re: Mom's jogging with 2 kids
Last summer (at 3.5) my middle daughter started riding her bike. Is this an option, for them to ride along as you run?
I am thinking to get runs with my girls this summer I will have #1 & #2 on bikes while I push #3 in the stroller.
I recomeend finding a nice, off the street bike path and give it a try.
I only have 1 so I can't say from experience. I do give her popcorn for the ride though. It's her afternoon snack and it takes a while to eat so she stays occupied.
Another idea is maybe a special book/ coloring/ leap pad that they can only play with during a run? Maybe a trip to the dollar store for some stickers.
Maybe you could also do some sort of reward system for great behavior? If they earn a certain number of stars or something they can bake a cake with mommy, or go to the children's museum, whatever.
When my sweet DS?s were little I?d run before their bed time. I?d bathe them, put them in their jammies and give them their lovies and within 5 minutes they?d be asleep. If they weren?t asleep I?d give them a snack when they began to fight.
