Pre-School and Daycare

Car line question

MIL, DH and I went to go drop off veggies for DS's Valentine's Day party at his school and MIL went ahead and went through the car line which only had one car in front of us at about 10:30 am. and school does not let morning classes out until 11:30.

The mom in that car looked like she may have waited more than an hour and saw we were only going to drop off the veggies. She did say she can go around to help us move out of that lane.

How early do you girls line up to pick up your LO's? I am curious because DS is in the bus before and after.

TIA

Re: Car line question

  • I am usually 15 mins early and am one of the first in line.  I figure that I have to wait at least 15 mins if I show up exactly on time, so at least I'm parked and not wasting gas, lol.  Sometimes I have been earlier if I have been running errands or something.  Never and hour early though!

  • Today I was about 10 min early and the 2nd one in line.  Our line moves really fast, so even if I get there right on time there is less than a 5 min wait.

  • I aim for during the carline window never early unless traffic and lights are with me and a get there a couple minutes early.  I work where there is a car line - we have some people who always show up 1 to 1.5 hour early.  I can't imagine having that time unless there is a sleeping baby in the car.

  • I don't use it for my kids yet but my older DD is at the schools PreK program and I sometimes pick her up at around the same time as the k-6th graders are getting out.  School gets out at 4:03 and I have gotten to school as early as 3:30 and have seen cars already lining up.  I think its crazy that people get their so early.  We have a 40% open enrollment rate at our school so a lot of the kids do not take the bus but we also have a huge before and after school program so I honestly am not sure the percent of kids that actually get picked up right after school lets out.  I know when I have arrived right at 4, the line snakes through the parking lot and out onto the street.

  • I usually leave 10 minutes prior (because my youngest is often still sleeping, so I want to give him as much sleep time as possible before I have to get him up and put him in the car) and arrive 3-5 minutes before school lets out.  I'm usually towards the end of the line....I believe the earliest anyone gets there is maybe 20 minutes early.
