Is it too soon?

Luke has been begging to go "somewhere fun" for a week or two now. I can't say that I blame him--we've been pretty much at home except for MDO and the occasional Target run. Would you take him and Des (with DH) to the children's museum this weekend? I'd wear Des to minimize contact with others, but I'm not sure if that's enough during cold and flu season. So should I forget the newborn paranoia and go, or am I crazy for even considering it?

Re: Is it too soon?

  • Would your DH be up for taking Luke on his own? I remember we did a lot of solo outings with DD when DS was younger than 6 weeks...one parent would take DD out for fun, the other would hang back with DS.

  • Sure!  DD was born in February, and we started going back to story time when she was 3 weeks.  I wore her or kept her covered in her car seat, and nobody bothered her.

Otherwise, have your DH take him.  They'd probably both enjoy the one on one time.

  • My only concern would be what your older kid would pick up.  We go to the Children's Museum a lot and honestly, it's a petri dish of germs.  I think your exposure is from what he will pick up, not the baby, so it probably won't matter if you take the baby versus sending the older kid with your DH.  Either way I would just be diligent about hand washing, changing clothes, etc as soon as you get home.

  • I would probably go and just wear Des in a Moby or something similar and keep him as covered as possible...then I'd probably strip Luke the second you got home and scrub him down :)
