I actually have met a M'k'yl'a ( not sure what the last apostrophe was for) She is about 13-14-15 now. I suspect teen parents but I never met them. She was/is a classmate of my youngest DS.

Oh, and friend's niece is Michaela and her BFF is Macayla. The call them "Mic" and "Mac" to distinguish between the 2.

To me, Michaela does not equal Mikayla. They are pronounced differently and therefore different names.
Michaela = Michael-AH
Mikayla = Mi-KAY-la
I prefer the sound and spelling Mikayla.
Ummmmmmm. No. Michaela is pronounced the same way as Mikayla. I know a few Michaelas (that spelling) and they defintely don't pronounce it Michael-Ah. THat is silly.

I agree it's silly, but I've run into several Michaelas who pronounce it this way (michael-ah) *shudder*. I also know someone who pronounces it Mik-eye-la.
None of these contain apostrophes, and I teach two girls who have different spellings of the name, with an apostrophe. There are probably an exponential amount of spellings when creative punctuation is included.
Re: How many ways can you spell Mikayla?
There's only one acceptable way, IMO:
Michaela.
I'm sure there are a million ways that people could spell it.
How about M'kailja? (The j is silent.)
Ditto!!

Um, no. Sorry, but you are wrong. Michaela is pronounced Mi-KAY-la, and is the correct spelling.
To be fair, I understand how you mis-read it. I thought that a nazi and a "naz-eye" were two different kinds of people until I was like 12.

The original spelling (and only acceptable one IMO as well) is Michaela. Like Michelle, it is a feminine version of Michael.
I actually really, really love Michaela, but I'd be mortified if someone thought my child's name was Mikayla.

Wow. Thanks for sharing this. I think I prefer Mikayla.
