Ladies, I need your advice. DH has a hard time letting the boys CIO in the middle of the night. Quick to jump and give them a bottle. Well, we decided to try to let them do it a little bit this week and we slept downstairs with the monitor so we wouldn't be as tempted to jump up and go to them. Well the first night the did great and both STTN. However, last night was a mess and we ended up giving them a little formula. How long should I be letting them cry before going in? DH is hunting this weekend so I thought I could try something to hopefully help us get this going in the right direction. TIA!!

Re: CIO at night...how long at 8 months??
One DS has been STTN for about a month. The other finally reduced down to only getting up once a night. When he wakes he wants to eat. I personally saw it as two different issues, one he is waking to eat and the other, he was not going down easily after eating.
I think it was reganB (sorry if I got it wrong) shared that she used a method where you reduce the intake by half an ounce every 3 days. We have been doing that and E is now only getting 3.5oz when he wakes in the night to eat.
Second problem, he stays awake after we feed him. On Sunday we started trying CIO. The first night we gave up after he screamed for 45 minutes. We would go in every 5 minutes to rub his back and calm him, but then he would start screaming again (NOT crying, screaming). The next night he fell asleep after 45 minutes, the following night after 30, then the next night 10 minutes and now last night he just grunted a few times and fell right to sleep. We will continue weaning him off the bottle (I hope) but it looks like the CIO is helping with falling back to sleep. Good luck this weekend, with us it was the opposite DH wanted to do it and I was the one that was not able to handle it
Hi Megan,
I didn't read the other replies yet but I HIGHLY recommend the Dr Ferber's sleep book. ?It worked well for us and it's also very informative about sleep. ?Sleep training stinks but it's better for you AND for the babies at this age. ?
