My 2.5 year old has croup. He has had a cold since last Thursday and croup coughing for 3 nights now. My 7 week old has congestion now and then and coughing now and then for the last 24 hours and is sleeping a little more than normal but no fever. I'm pretty sure he has the cold that the whole family has. Do I need to take him to the Dr? I talked to the Dr's nurse but I didn't think she was all that informative. She said they wouldn't need to see the baby until he developed croup, coughing like a seal at night hoarse breathing, etc.
DS#1 never had a cold as an infant so I'm a little concerned.
Re: When to take baby to dr?
Seven weeks old is pretty young. I'd take him to the doctor, if it were me. My three-month olds came down with a mild cold a few weeks ago, and the doctor wanted to see them just in case, to verify that they were okay. They got over the cold pretty quickly and were fine.
I'm a little gunshy at the moment, though - my friend's three-month old just came down with RSV and wound up in the PICU.
