I am so sick, I can't take it. I'm only getting worse, not better. I call my dr's office and they never answer or call me back. I know I can't really take anything..I've taken regular Tylenol. (It's like a bad head cold) My eyes are so heavy, My nose goes from clogged to runny in .5 seconds. My throat is sore and I've already thrown up from mucous twice. Sorry TMI

Any advice girls? I feel like death

Re: Helpppp =(
You can take Tylenol Cold while you're sick...it's safe.
Have you tried a Netti Pot? It does help relieve some of the congestion.
Have you called your regular doctor or your OB? How long have you had the sore throat? Can you (or someone else) see any white patches or spots on the back of your throat? If you can it's probably strep or some other infection and you need to get it treated. If not, it's probably just irritated from the post nasal drip. (Lovely, right?) Gargling with warm salt warm helps relieve the pain either way.
I think Sgt M's Wife has it all covered. She has a plethora of ideas there and good information!
I had white patches back in November, and it was mono. Not fun. I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks girls.
I can never get ahold of my doctor. It's literally impossible. I leave messages..no calls back. Never matters how many times I try or what the issue is. And when I call the main desk to see if they'll help me it's like talking to a wall. "Well you have to call your set nurse" Okay well I did and get nowhere. "Well if it's an emergency you can go to the hospital or call 911" Thanks alot. *click* I've been sick since Saturday night/Sunday morning. No white spots. Think it's just from my nose (Gross) I've banned netti pots from my house..my fiance' was using it a lot and then we knew two people who got bad bacterial infections from it..and then I saw it on the news where someone died..so I'm a little over paranoid about it probably.
I have another RN through the Healthy Steps program through United Healthcare that I called. She said I could take Sudafed or plain Robitussin but I have to get cleared from my doctor before I do either..which like I said..almost impossible to get ahold of them. So frustrating! >:[

It's a website that rates all prescription and over the counter medications on a scale of how safe it is for your unborn baby. It's a good resource. It's the rating according to the FDA.
Is it your regular doctor or your OB who won't call you back? Either way I'd be PISSED and would be looking for a new doctor.
Since you're opposed to the netti pot try a saline spray.
Sorry you feel so bad. Unfortunately there's not much you can do for a head cold but let it run its course. I had one a few weeks ago and it was horrendous - I thought I would never get better. Here's what helped me get through the few head colds I've had so far being pregnant:
Benadryl for runny nose/congestion - it's on my OB's safe list (but just one capsule). It will also help you sleep.
If any pain in throat - unfortunately just Tylenol which I know does nothing. Keep gargling with warm salt water once every few hours - it will keep helping flush any bacteria out of your throat and prevent the infection from moving to your throat.
Ice pack for any sinus pain in your head
Vaseline for your chapped nose
LOTS of rest & fluids.
Bottom line--- your OB office whether triage nurse or an MD should be calling you back and providing you with instructions and answering your questions. That is unacceptable! Call the office ASAP and ask to speak to the Office Manager or Nurse Manager and let them know you have been trying to get a return call/leaving messages without response and your symptoms are getting worse/not resolving since you have had no directions on what is safe for you take/not take. This should get a response.
I realize you may not feel comfortable changing docs in the midst of your pregnancy but it is something to consider based on the lack of response you are getting. You can get lots of recommendations from this board for docs.
Yes--not much can be done for sinus infection or head cold but its not ok not to give you some information or a return call. They haven't assessed you, talked to you or done anything. You could have another type of infection brewing and if you are in your first trimester you can use most over the counter "safe" drugs until 2nd/3rd--- you should not be trying to figure this out and manage your own care.
Can you tell how angry I am for you!!!! Hang in there and follow all of the know things--rest, fluids, menthol, salt water rinses. Also if the drainage/snot changes from clear/watery to a thicker yellow/green or you get a fever--you need to call immediately. Hopefully they will call back. Hang in there and sorry this is all going on for you.
I feel the same way. I just feel like I have nowhere else to go. It's so frustrating! My fiance' feels the same way as well..this morning he said it best "What if it was REALLY serious? Not very reassuring" 100% spot on. And this is not the first time we've been disappointed by them. I called the hospital (Virtua) and complained to the director who put me in touch with someone who ACTUALLY answered. But seriously..almost 2 days and 10 hours later? That is absurd! What dr's office works like that? I got Tylenol cold so I just took 1 pill about 15 minutes ago..I seem to not feel like my head may pop off. And my nose has calmed down. I'm a big greaseball of Vasoline and Vaporub so hopefully tomorrow I'll be doing better
Glad to hear that you at least got some response. It's just not acceptable and if it's an indication of their responsiveness...it is a serious cause for concern. I'm hoping a dose of the Tylenol cold and a good night sleep will help clear you out a bit. I went a few days of "healing thyself" with a raging sinus infection and then i had to take something. One dose of Claritin was all that it took. Take care of yourself.
At your next scheduled OB appt (not sure how far along you are)....you really need to let the MD know what you experienced this week at the practice as well as that you had to call Virtua to get some assistance! They would want to know and for them to correct the way the handle all patients in the future. Glad you did but you should not have had to go that route of calling the hospital where you are going to deliver to get some help! I worked at Virtua for years and know how great that team is there. Glad you were resourceful enough to reach out to them.
Hang in there and wishing you a snot free/head clear day tomorrow!
