Has anyone else been told to take this? My Dr. noted that at my last test my iron was a little bit low. He said it wasn't harmful for the baby but low iron can cause problems for ME during labor etc. So he recommended I start Ferro Sequels (OTC) once a day.
Note - my prenatals do not have iron in them so I haven't taken any iron which he was surprised about (this is not my main OB - i'm meeting the rest of the practice when I can).
That was 2 weeks ago - I've taken it almost every day and almost every day about an hour or two later I start to feel queasy and sick and I don't want to eat etc. A few days I've felt fine and I haven't figured out if those days correlate with days I've forgotten to take it.
So this morning I researched it a bit. Turns out it's not just iron, it also has a stool softener in it to help counteract the constipation iron can cause. Plus it says something about NOT taking it with food (which I do because he said it would help any possible stomach upset to take with food).
At this point I'm going to stop taking it for a day or two, if I don't feel sick anymore I'm going to wait until I talk to my main OB on Wednesday and figure something out - maybe I can just take a regular iron supplement. I don't have constipation issues so I'm not sure why he went this route.
What makes me mad is that this supplement was expensive compared to the other iron supplements - waste of money if I switch ![]()
