3rd Trimester

Leg Cramps

I think I'm dying with the pain in my legs. For the last few days I've been having not "charlie horses" but a constant pain in really only one of my legs its like an ache that just won't quite.  I've tried everything to get it to go away and nothing is working... I have a doctor appointment this morning to check my blood pressure which is going up so I'll ask the doctor about it just wanting your thought.  Oh and I've been having false labor on and off for 2 days now.

Wishing she would come out soon  Thanks Ladies

Re: Leg Cramps

  • My legs ache.  I think it is a combination of poor circulation and sciatica.  The ONLY thing that really works is a good nights sleep.  Sometimes that doesn't work.  I get sciatica really bad when I have stress and Friday was a tense day for me.  I went to the bed at around 6 pm on Friday night till about 6 am Saturday.  Then took it easy and stayed horizontal as much a possible on Saturday and finally felt normal again on Sunday.

  • Massage and lots of stretching! My legs were getting crampy in the middle of the night and then all of a sudden I started craving bananas and peanut butter relentlessly. Seriously I buy 4 bunches of bananas every time I got to the store and I went to chiquitabanana.com and made every banana recipe on the website. Long story short, I think all the potassium I'm intaking must be helping because my legs haven't ached in a week or two. Keep your feet up as much as possible, which will also help with any foot and ankle swelling if you have any.

  • I have leg cramps as well and use a heating pad on low/medium on my legs in the evening while they are propped up.  It doesn't always take the pain completely away, but it certainly eases it.
  • I started having leg cramps in the 2nd tri....I have drank gallons upon gallons of orange juice.  Weirdly enough, I started craving grapefruit juice in the 1st tri and just transitioned over to orange.  Some people say that is an indication of GD, but I tested negative.  The potassium seems to have helped.  I would drink it in the middle of the night if I woke up with them.
  • i've been having horrible leg cramps for the past few weeks.

at my 28 week appointment i mentioned it to my Dr. and she said " its part of pregnancy." and that was it. lol

I have no advice , i am going for a prenatal massage tomorrow and can not wait!!!

  • I asked my midwife and she said it was due to a calcium deficiency.  I've been taking two of those chocolate Viactiv chews each day and the leg cramps are gone!
  • Thanks ladies, its not a calcium deficiency I drink more milk then the average person. Could be lack of sleep since I don't do that anymore lol and it sucks.  The doctor said its normal and it will go away eventually lol great really helpful but I was expecting that.  I think I will try some bananas maybe make muffins since I'm not a huge banana fan.

    Thanks

  • my little guys been sitting on my scatic nerve so the whole left side of my lower back and leg constantly hurts no matter what i do.. but i had pain in the muscles and just flat out cramps in my whole legs so i called my docter to see what to do. i was told to drink the largest thing(64oz) of gaterade. the electolytes* help the muscles plus if you over hydrate yourself it helps with the cramps. ive been drinking a smaller thing of gaterade on top of like 70 oz. of water a day for the past week and wala! my legs dont hurt to move anymore(other than the sciatic one). so try that.. it really helped me.
