Pregnant after IF

Question from a 3TCer - Early Blast Success?

Hi ladies,

I just had my ET today for IVF #3 and we transferred 3 early blastocysts.  None were particularly great quality, and they did assisted thinning/hatching on all of them.  The grades were 1BB, 1BC, and 1BC.  At my clinic 1 = early and A= best grade.

Do any of you have success stories you can share with me about blasts transferred with less-than-optimal grades?  Also, did any of you have blasts that were processed with AH?

Clearly I'm looking for any small sliver of hope I can cling to at this point!  Thanks! :)

  • Hey hun, saw your post on 3T but thought I would respond here b/c of ticker --- just wanted to say, I've heard of way worse than BB and BC sticking, so try to stay positive about it -- esp. the fact that 2 actually were on the up-swing when implanted.  I think that's a good sign.  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I'd feel so much better if they had at least been 2s or 3s...but it's really good to hear someone has heard of worse sticking!  Thank you :)

  • My clinic grades embryos differently from that scale (they only rate them as good, fair, and poor!), but we transferred 1 good embryo that had both ICSI and assisted hatching, and we got that one to stick! Sending happy thoughts your way :)

  • I know someone pregnsnt with twins from a day 5 morula and a so so blastocyst. So slower ones and less pretty ones can and do stick and turn into beautiful babies. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

  • I've seen ladies that have had 5 day transfers of morulas and other pre-blasts that have found success.

My own experience was that during my first 2 5-day transfers, I transferred 4 good expanded blasts and one not so great blast.  I never had any sort of implantation with those.  On my third cycle, I transferred 2 2-day embryos with AH and one stuck.  The grading is pretty subjective and doesn't necessarily mean that the embryo is bad or anything.

Wishing you the best, limpetfan.  Stick embies, stick!!

  • Just saw your update on 3T this morning --- congrats on having a snowbaby!  That's a great sign since it wasn't even one of the strongest on the day of transfer -- now I definitely think they were on the up-swing when implanted.  Can't wait for your beta!

  • I'm sorry for an obvious late reply to your message, but I thought you might appreciate a positive early blast story.  I have been a long time lurker of 3T, and now a lurker of PAIF and July 2012 Moms:).  On my transfer day I had one early blast and one "poor" early blast to transfer.  After what we thought was a pretty good cycle up until fertilization, we had a lot of disappointment.  On the day of transfer when they were telling me about my embryos, adding in their miracle stories, and the doctor giving me a 40% chance that it would result in a pregnancy, I was, needless to say, a bit discouraged and upset.  I also had AH.  Luckily, one of those early blasts decided to make a home.

There are a few other stories of successes with early blasts on thebump that I found encouraging....and I knew that if I ever saw someone looking for hope with an early blast transfer that I would want to share my success story.  I hope your beta goes well.
