babywearing for pregnant mamas

Hey all -

 Two questions:

1.  What's a good wrap/carrier I can use for my 30ish pound 14 month old WHILE pregnant? Is that possible? lol I'm assuming I will have to stop wearing him at some piont.

2.  I'm expecting in October and my DS will be 22months old - any good carriers for toddlers?

I currently have the moby and mei tai

  • DS is about 27lbs and I wear him in my Babyhawk a few times a week, both on my front and back. This was earlier in the week.

  • My daughter is 2 years old and 31lbs. We mostly use a mei-tai with a padded waist. It is a bamberoo deluxe, so it is wider than a standard sized mei-tai, but nor quite as wide as a toddler sized one.

I have had horrible round ligament pain for the past two weeks and have not done much wearing, though.

Edited to add: I bought the mei tai specifically because I thought it would be great for wearing while pregnant. It has been great up until now. Hopefully I will go back to it soon, although my daughter is obsessed with the stroller currently.

  • Not the Moby, for sure! That is stretchy and unsupportive. I love wrapping with a woven wrap, and wear baby exclusively in that. On TBW I have seen pics of moms wearing their kiddos right up to the end in back carries (though maybe just for a few min. if that is all they have energy for). There are several ladies in my BW group (including me) who still wear while PG. I already find myself getting tired more quickly, but I wear to the point of discomfort then stop.

Woven wraps are good for NB to child, so that may also be a thought for a toddler wearing plan.

  • I still wear Micah (24 pounds) in my Ergo, but usually in the front and that's just not happening anymore.  I'm going to have to switch him to the back.  I imagine I could also use my girasol wrap, but I just haven't tried it yet.

My H said I could buy a mei tei with our state tax refund.  I wanted one specifically so that I could wear Micah while I'm still pregnant.

  • Thanks ladies! i'm going to look into the babyhawk and ergo =)

  • I have a Boba and my friend wore her son her entire pregnancy in a Boba as well. Our kids are a big smaller but they will last into toddler hood and I've always gotten a comfortable fit around my belly.
