It only took 6 hours, but I'm finally home relaxing after my ET today!
We transferred 3 early blastocysts, in a very...interesting... turn of events.
Basically, my post-acupuncture relaxation was interrupted by the head of the embryology lab coming in to ask me if she could push back my transfer time by 1 hour. We had 5 blasts available this morning, and she was having trouble deciding which ones to transfer because they were all equally-crappy quality.
That's right. In spite of our embies being lovely on day 2, by day 5 all we really had that was worthy of transfer were 5 early, not-so-impressive blasts. Out of 25 total embies to start with. Awesome.
So after peeing out my full bladder that was ready for transfer, I had to drink up all over again and wait for the embryos to show the embryologist which ones were going to be decent. It's a good thing we did this, because 2 of the blasts that looked bad in the morning improved quite a bit by this afternoon, going up 1 grade for each cell type by the time of the transfer. We decided to put back 3 because of our history of bad embryos and failed IVF attempts (not because I have some crazy desire to carry triplets).
Also!! They used assisted hatching on our embryos on Day 3, and then let them grow to day 5. I wish I knew how to PIP, because it's really cool to see the pictures of these AH blasts... it *almost* looks like one of them is actually hatching (which I think isn't really possible because it wasn't expanded very much, but it is still cool).
My beta is 2/23, and I'm just trying to focus on the fact that these embryos were blasts, one was a BB grade, and they had all the help we could get them with the AH. Positive thinking will help, right?! I know this was a novel, and if you got this far you deserve a lovely red velvet cupcake for Valentine's Day
ETA: My nurse called me this morning and told me something I didn't know yesterday - these embryos had ZERO fragmentation. Our embryos are usually pretty fragmented, so that's pretty good news
