Happy VDay--share your plans...

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  We all know it's hard to make this day as romantic as we would have before we had kids, but I'm curious--what ways are you and DH making today special, if at all?

Re: Happy VDay--share your plans...

  • We're not big Valentine's Day people...but I got DH a card and made him gourmet coffee this morning (I make him coffee every morning, but it's usually something from a big can...decent, but not all that special).  We decided not to try and go out tonight, during the week is just too hard, but I'm planning to make some fun drinks after we put the girls to bed...and we'll see where things go from there...my guess is the drinks may just put us to sleep lol.  I'm expecting some chocolate to show up this evening...that's DH's usual MO and one I'm happy to be the recipient of :)

  • I got DH a card and I will give it to him tonight after I've had a chance to sign it. We were going to get take-out at PF Changs tonight. However, I miscalculated my days and had some meat that needs to be used tonight. So, I put that in the crockpot this morning and we'll get PF Changs another night. Oh, and I gave DH a kiss this morning and said "Happy Valentine's Day" in the middle of when DD#2 was screaming and we were rushing out of the door. Yep, this day is pretty much no different than any other.

  • I got DH a card and a Kindle Fire and I got the LOs a few new small toys. I'm sure DH didn't get me anything. He was going to cook me dinner tonight but informed me last night that he has to work (at home) tonight. So, instead, I'm going to go for a long run on the treadmill and then get my own dinner. This is actually fine with me b/c I never get time at night to run for more than 30 minutes or have a night to myself. Yeah, so not real romantic.
  • I got him a card and some wine and he claims to be crafting me some kind of card today (he needed supplies??). Since we're having our bathroom renovated, I have to figure out where I"m going to shower tonight. Sexy!
  • He usually gets me a card and sometimes we get each other candy.

This year, the in-laws offered to babysit so we could go out---this is a new thing, they don't usually offer, but they have been around a lot more lately so the kids are comfortable with them.  They even offered to feed the kids dinner and put them to bed so I am very excited about that part!  (Usually if we go out together, its after the kids are in bed.)

  • Whew, this makes me feel a little better.  I've been feeling like a terrible wife because I haven't even gotten a card yet Embarrassed FWIW I meant to get one yesterday during my lunch break but forgot my wallet in the diaper bag at home.

DH gave me flowers last night, and he made a steak dinner with asparagus (all while handling pickup and dealing with a hungry LO while I worked later than expected).  It was definitely unexpected and kind of added to my feeling like a bad wife :(

I'm trying (and have been trying) to think of something special to do but I'm just out of ideas.  DS's b-day is Friday and all our fam is coming to town so I've been consumed with that and last-minute house repairs to get ready for the family coming.

  • Our anniversary is in early February so we go all-out for that with a fancy date night and DH usually sends flowers to the office. But our only V-Day plans are eating leftovers this evening and understanding that DS will have had some sort of treat at daycare and will likely not eat dinner. Ah, romance!

  • We just do cards and we are making a nice dinner (if you have any menu ideas let me know because i need to run to the store at lunch). DD loved her Valentines Pez. She gets SO excited over the whole thing and we got a good laugh over her running around like she had won the lottery.

  • Our usual MO is for DH to cook a nice dinner at home, and I'm in charge of dessert. I'm a slacker this year and didn't have time to make dessert, so I bought it instead.

  • No gifts or cards or anything. But we will open a bottle of sparkling wine, and watch Downton Abbey (two days late! gah!) and probably have leftovers for dinner. And chocolate, which we already have in the house. But I might get a half-off Whitman's Sampler heart-shaped box dealie tomorrow at CVS.

  • C "gave" DH a card and a decorated bucket of his favorite peppermint candies from CVS this morning.  I got him a card and a GC to DSW (which landed in his inbox last night).  I know he got me a ring I had hinted at because he left the e-reciept on the printer (d'oh!) but he doesn't know I saw it.  We will do our same routine tonight.  This weekend we are going to CT to visit his mom so we will have a date night up there...Grandma = Free Babysitting, right?

Oh, and this! J is getting ice cream, among other things, so that should make for a fun evening.

  • We have a GC to Outback so DH is going to pick up takeout for the two of us after the kids go to bed.

DH made a "special" breakfast for the kids this morning (scrambled eggs) and they opened cards.  DS gets to pass out his V-day cards that we worked on this weekend at school today, so he's excited.

  • I bought DH a Dr. Who poster and had it framed for his office (for those that watch it was Van Gogh's Exploding Tardis - romantic, I know).  We were going to order out Chinese, but I unexpectedly worked late last night, so for tonight I bought heart shaped pasta and we'll have it with meatballs.  Our traditional Valentine's Day dessert is pots de creme.  I made it last night.  DH has been working in his shop for the last month on something for me, I don't know what it is yet, but he told me it was complete last night.

  • I got him a card, some candy (all at CVS while picking up my antibiotic prescription yesterday, lol), and got him and LO matching shirts.

He generally buys me flowers and some candy, and last year I got jewelry. I don't know if that was a one-time thing because I had just had a baby a month before, but I would welcome it :-)

We will just do our normal dinner routine, but maybe I'll get cupcakes or something.

  • it's really just another Tues for us.  Great-grand and grandparents send the kids cards.

Maybe when the kids are older and into it, we may do something.

  • DH and I really don't do anything for Valentine's Day.  I am not expecting anything and I will not be disappointed if I don't get anything since I have nothing for him.  It is hard to come up with gifts or things to do for our anniversary, birthdays and Christmas (we usually only do something big for one of those events each year).
  • We're doing the Papa John's heart-shaped pizza and cinnabread for dinner combo special.  Ahhh romance.....

OMG, the last episode of DA was SO GOOD.  Be warned, though, it's 2 hrs.  But perhaps the most awesome 2 hrs in recent television history!

We celebrate Vday but it's not a big deal.  We exchange cards & hubz gives me chocolate.  I make dinner (today it will be TJ's stuffed flounder, wild rice with mushrooms & kale, roasted asparagus & banana flambe w/ ice cream) and we try to do an activity together (minds out of the gutter, y'all!).

Vday is kind of cheesy, but it's a good reminder for us to stop & do something nice for each other.

OMG! We might have to do this. One year we decided to only eat heart-shaped foods on Valentine's. We got heart-shaped bagels at Einstein, a heart-shaped pizza at Maggiano's, and then made a heart-shaped cake.
