Hi everyone. I have been getting so much useful information from you guys...thank you so much for taking the time to answer all these newbie questions.
I am planning on using prefolds and covers for the newborn stage with 2 bummis super brites (newborn) and 4 thirsties duo wraps (size 1) and want to pair them with gmd prefolds. I want to get 3 dozen to start, but I was wondering what size to get. I know the thirsties should fit longer than the superbrites, and was hoping to have prefolds in my rotation until the baby outgrows them. I was thinking of getting 2 dozen newborn and 1 dozen small prefolds...what do you guys think? Would it be better to just bite the bullet and get 2 dozen of each size? I am also thinking of using the small size for burp cloths initially. TIA for any advice.
Re: Prefolds- What size to buy
I think your plan sounds good. We used the small size as burp cloths or on the changing pad to keep the cover clean until DD fit in them. By the time she fit into the small size, it was only another week or two until she fit in her OS dipes.
For the NB stage, we had 12 NB prefolds, 4 covers (same ones you picked), and 12 pockets/AIOs, but I would have also been happy with just 24 prefolds.
DS was 10 lbs, 7 oz at birth. We had 3 doz orange edge (newborn) and I can't remember how many yellow edge (small). 3 dozen was a great amount - enough that we didn't ever feel pressured to do diaper laundry asap, and enough that if we did go an extra day before doing laundry we weren't in trouble either. It seemed a looooong time before he outgrew the orange edge and we needed to switch to yellow. I used the yellow for burp cloths and they were great.
What do you plan on using after the newborn stage? I would say DS was out of the "newborn stage" by the time he was in the yellow edge. He was fully able to wear the one-size fitteds (GM's, BubuBebe's) that we had in our stash, as well as our bum genius one-size organics.
ETA: I forgot about the covers. We had 4 covers as well. We used all Thirsties (not duos at the time) and loved them. I'm really excited to break our stash out again for the upcoming baby!
