DD loves pickles, and I was looking for sliced pickles the other day (the spears tend to drip a lot, like down her shirt to her elbow). The only organic ones they had were spears, and bread & butter. I guess I'd never had bread & butter pickles before.. do you just 'use' them as you would any other pickle? They are so sweet!
That being said.. I was going to buy non-organic, but I noticed they ALL had dyes in them, like yellow and blue. Why do they have to do that to so many foods? DH suggested trying the refrigerated pickles (Vlasic etc) so I might just do that, hopefully they will be dye-free.
Re: Pickles/ bread&butter pickles
I am not a fan of B&B pickles, just due to the sweetness. I like dill, zesty dill, etc. I have only seen them in the mini and spears I think. My step mom serves both kinds on a relish tray for holidays, so yes....they are "used" like any other pickle!
My big beef with pickles is the sodium content! The other day I scarfed down a Big Papa Dill (one of those huge pickles sold in a pouch) and then noticed I had over 3k mg of sodium! It was to be eaten in serving sizes of 1/9 of the pickle! I am going to have to look for lower sodium ones that still taste just as yummy. I have another one of these big pickles and it is killing me not to eat the whole thing!

I make my own and can them in the summer. My neighbor grows cukes and he always has a boatload. I make both dill spears and a thin sliced sweeter one, but they are sweet w/ still being tangy (the recipe I use also has thin sliced onion and bell pepper and I love them!), unlike other sweet pickles that are just sugar overload.
Evan loves pickles so I like that the ones he eats at home are not full of sodium and sugar. Homemade canned pickles still have a lot of salt in them, but at least I can control the amount (I always cut back the amount of salt and sugar called for in the recipe)
