Ideally- how long will you date someone before introducing them to LO?

  • I waitied about 3-4 months before my LO met my boyfriend.

  • I guess it would really depend on how the relationship was going. I can't imagine having a ton of time to date (with an 8 mo) right now, so I don't see myself having enough time to get to know someone well enough without going out for a few months first, maybe 5 or 6 months.

  • I waited 5 months.  And at that point we arranged it so he just happened to run into us at a local park - so he could see me in my role as a mom primarily.  I wanted him to see that my life is not generally kid free dinners with wine and 3 course meals.  After 2 months of the park run-ins, we all had an outing to dinner and fireworks for the 4th of July.  From that point we (kids and I) have seen him about once a week.  I make sure not to include him in everything we do, I want them to know I'm still here for them, and slowly and gradually we will include him more and more. (We've been together just over a year now.)

Sounds like a great way to approach it.

  • It's such a tough call.  I've introduced too soon and regretted it later.  I would say at least a few months?

  • My last relationship, after much begging and cajoling from my partner, I finally inteoduced them after 3 years. I was really PISSED when the relationship went south, because he hurt her, too.
  • I did things pretty different in that DD was with me on SO and I's first date Embarrassed

Oh well, it went great and we're still together a year later haha

  • I've known the guy I'm with now for almost 2 years and he just met DS for the first time 2 weeks ago. But he lives 4 1/2 hours away and we weren't in a relationship until eecently. I can't imagine waiting years to introduce DS to anyone that may someday be a huge part of his life. I want to see how well he interacts with DS before I get too far into the relationship. I didn't introduce him as my boyfriend, I did it as mommy's friend. He has never met any other guys I've been involved with so this was a big step. I would say it goes by how soon you're comfortable with it.

  • Man I can't believe how many responses for 6+ months. I've introduced too soon as well but it'd be tough to wait that long. What if LO is home when they pick you up? Do you have the babysitter in another room? It's a tough call.. I wouldn't want to date someone for 6 months, get attached, introduce LO and then have LO not adjust well. I guess there are so many ways to look at it all..
