need date night restaurant recs.

DH and I are going on a date Friday night and I need some ideas for a restaurant.  Keep in mind he's super picky, and won't eat ethnic- no Asian, no Indian, Mexican is "meh", and I can't really eat Italian right now.  I'm so tired if the chains we always go to- like Roadhouse.  BLAH.  On the cheapish side- looking to stay under $20/person (and we don't drink) and on the North side of town.  TIA!

    We love love love Cover 3. It's a sports bar/restaurant, but it's pretty nice. They have great food and service and there would definitely be something you guys could eat :)

    If Mexican is "meh" does that mean he might try it? We just ate at Vivos a couple of weeks ago and I loved it. My husband said the brisket enchiladas might be the best thing he's ever eaten.

    "Meh" meaning all I'll hear is whining if he agrees to go.  ;)   We've actually been to Vivo's and I like it a lot- him not so much.  I wish I could drink- I would be all over their Mex Martini!

    Oh man, I haven't even tried their drinks but if it's anything like their salsa, chips, brisket enchiladas, and entire dessert menu (yes, in my two visits there I have managed to sample the entire thing), I'm sure it's amazing. 

    I think I know where my first post-pregnancy date night will be located...

    Good Lord, their Mex martini's are stronger than Trudy's.  2 and I'm GONE and DH gets lucky.   Wink

    What about Blue Star Cafe?  or Hyde Park both have a good selection of "american" food.  I like Cover 3 also.  I'd suggest Bartletts but it's a little pricey.  When in a pinch DH and I go to Red Lobster... yes we can be considered a little trashy but their fish is good.  Smile

    Someone posted about Zed's the other day, and it looked REALLY good!  It seems to meet all your qualifications. I think it was boxer and Rosie (maybe they'll chime in). It is on my list to check out now.

    It's nothing new, but Z Tejas fits your requirements.  They have 2 North locations and never let me down!

    Vivos or Fino.  Oh, or 24.  It this diner-inspired-foodie restaurant over by book people.  Yum!  DH and I went there the other day and it was delish.

    Are you not drinking because of the met?  You know I restarted it, right?  Basically, it makes me feel hungover 24 hours a day.  Might as well have a margarita now and then, right?  :)  Seriously though, the side effects are no worse for me with or without alcohol.

    I'm scared.  LOL The only time I tried it was only a 1/4 glass of wine and I was Ick! ALL night long, and most of the next morning.  I don't know if I want to chance it again this soon.  BLECH!
