WWYD? Re: The Pill

So I started on the mini-pill on Friday.  I'm a little nervous because I feel like my supply is taking a hit.  I've been pumping 10-12oz every day, and yesterday was a whopping 7oz.  7!  I mentioned it to DH lastnight and he says, like it's no big deal, "Just don't take the pill."  To which I responded, "I'm fertile mertle over here and I don't want to chance getting pregnant right this moment."  (we are still undecided on #3.)  He said, we can just use condoms, but i'm so afraid we'll get caught up in the moment and not use it.  I've heard paraguard is completely hormone free, but I'm not sure I want to pay for something that lasts for so long if we do decide to go for #3.  I'm not sure where i'm going with this, someone hug me!  :)

Re: WWYD? Re: The Pill

  • My supply totally tanked within a few days of starting the mini pill after Tess. Dh and I have already discussed the fact that we will be using condoms for at least 6 months postpartum until the hormones level out a little and we can decide if there will be a #3. It's a pain to stop and use it, but hormonal Bcp make me crazy and we personally don't want to use an iud because of the possibility of conception occuring but not implanting.

  • That is my feeling with the paragard too. It lasts for 10 years but we are about 99% sure we are not "done" with this baby and it certainly won't be 10 years before we want another one. I don't want to be on the pill, because I didn't like it when I was on it, but as indicated by my bulging belly, we aren't so good at the whole being responsible and wrapping it up thing. Hugs!

  • Hmmm....well...you may want to check out the 2under2 board to see how well the mini pill works :)

I'd look into the mirena. is has hormones but it is delvered locally so FAR less of it gets into your bloodstream to possibly affect supply. I didn't notice a supply dip. It's good for 5 years but that doesn't mean you have to use it for that long.

The thing with paraguard to me is that I just don't want something in my body for 10 years, ew. Haha!

And maybe your DH should try a condom the next time. Mine did and it was on for less than 3 minutes and he's like "once you stop using these you just can't go back" haha!!

  • Yeah I'm done with the pill.  I just pumped 2 oz.  I usually get at least 5 or 6 the first time I pump at work.  I could cry.
  • Boooo..Grab some mother's milk tea - it's awesome!!!! GL!

  • Oo- I hate the pill for all those reasons. I'm hoping wrapping it up works this time otherwise we're going to have 3 kids sooner than I want.

Heck....you can stay right here to find out how well the mini-pill works.  My little Dylan is the product of the mini-pill!!  Actually though I had stopped nursing and didn't realize I was supposed to switch back to another pill.  I'm so glad I have Dylan but what a shocker it was realizing I was pregnant again when my oldest was only 8 months old.

  • I am dealing with the exact same situation right now except I'm not on the pill. I really don't want to take anything with hormones for fear of my supply dropping and also fear of them going to Callie. As much as I'm not a fan of condoms that's my vote. DH on the other hand doesn't want to use them. Needless to say the deed hasn't been done since before C was born because of it and DH is going nuts. I told him I'd be too worried about an oopsie happening if we didn't use anything and just relied on the pull and pray method.

I was put on the mini-pill for blood pressure issues but was never told it was a mini pill .You know those "placebo" pills in the pack? Yeah, I was chucking them as I had with every other pill I had taken in my life. Evan was our little surprise from the blatant/ignorant use of the mini.

I can't even believe that as an intelligent person I failed to do my homework. Obviously happy now that I was so stupid!

This is how my beautiful Aislinn was created....haha!

  • I'm on the depo shot! it's safe while BFing, doesn't do anything to your supply (well, I don't think it does, I'm able to EP for twins who are on 100% BM!), and from what I know it's very effective. You just go to the dr. to get it injected every 3 months. From what I know, the only "major" side effect is weight gain. I haven't noticed it myself, but I admittedly eat like crap.
