Cloth Diapering

baby cereal = no longer water-soluable poo?

Question....LO just started baby cereal yesturday and is going to start solids in the next couple weeks. Is cereal considered a solid as far as cd diaper wash and maintenance is concerned? And if so, what do I need to do differently to make sure it gets cleaned thoroughly? Poo so far is def still more liquid than solid and def not plop-able so I have just thrown her diapers in the washer and washed like usual. But once I start solids....do I still just wash as usual unless its a solid poo in which case I plop in toilet? Or do I need to be spraying these diapers off starting now since the poo is no longer water-soluable??

Sorry...I am just way confused and I want to make sure I am doing this right. THANKS!!

  • You'll know :-) I was shocked by how suddenly and drastically LO's poo changed after she started solids. I was also surprised that it wasn't right away, so don't be alarmed if it hasn't changed yet. It was like serious peanut butter when it changed and it SMELLED :-)

  • There will be a definite change in consistency once LO really starts with solids. At that point, you will need to start scraping. I've never been a thorough scraper and I've never had stains or stink problems. A little bit of poo in the washer won't be the end of the world.

  • I was also freaked out when we started solid foods.  I've never once scraped - I just can't get past the thought of it.  We've used flushable liners which are just simpler for me or we won't use nothing at all and just plop it into the toilet which is my prefured method.  It works out just fine!

  • As others have said but I never scraped poo off a diaper.  I just did/do the good old dunk and flush and it works every time.

  • Thanks ladies! I am going to look into the flushable liners because I can't stand the thought of scraping or dunking lol...but if the liners don't work...scraping and dunking it is...
