2nd Trimester

Help! Tiny Red spots on tummy?

I am 20 weeks pregnant today, and have been fighting a cold for the past couple of days... lots of sneezing coughing and blowing my nose. I just looked at my belly today and noticed a cluster of small, almost pin--size redish/purple spots ( Not raised, but flush to the skin). They are kind of in a cluster right next to my belly button. They aren't itchy or painful.... Could it be that i just strained my stomach during my cold? I'm starting to freak myself out... :(

  • It might be nothing, maybe your shirt rubbed on that spot or you ate something that gave you hives. I'd keep an eye on it though. I had postpartum PUPPPs withy first and it appeared this way at first. It normally affects women while they're still pregnant, it's caused by the hormone changes and looks and feels a lot like chicken pocks. For your sake I hope it's just irritated and goes away!

  • could be the start of tiny stretch marks?
I have a few tiny little dashes/spots of bright red skin right beside my bell button, still smooth, but Im certain they will grow into long marks XD

  • If you been coughing a lot it could be just broken tiny blood vessels. I get them when I get violently ill (vomit), mostly on my face.  Hope they go away soon..

  • Itcold be something called "cherry angiomas" which are benign growths that we all have all the time but we tend to get more during pregnancy.  Look around your body, you might find more.

  • I have been reading a lot about pregnancy rashes because I have itchy, uncomfortable ones on my back and sides...a lot of the pregnancy rashes start on near the belly button. Most are nothing to be concerned about, just annoying and you should still check with doc.  But I hope that helps...could be heat rash from being a little sick as well.

  • I had this same thing when I was fighting off a cold a few weeks ago. They were flush with my skin, really didn't itch until I took a shower then they got bright red and itched some. Once I went off Sudafed and my cold started to subside they went away. Hopefully yours will too.

I had this too! I'm actually significantly more scared of getting PUPPs again (even knowing you don't get it twice) than I am of labor. Mine started in my stretch marks and then spread. And I think that's the typical presentation. So I would guess that hers are something else. Maybe a broken blood vessel?

  • I found spots on my upper tummy just after my 20 week doc's appointment. I'm a FTM so I didn't want to immediately think it was PUPPS. They are only slightly itchy and not all the time and seem to be going away so I'm hoping they are just a light irritation that I don't have to worry about.
