Formula issues...switch or wait longer?

We started DS on just Similac Sensitive for Fussiness and Gas on Friday night. Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night he ate just the formula but then I was wondering if that was too much of a transition too quickly so we have been giving him about a third breastmilk and the rest is formula. Hes been sort of gassy as night, probably a little more than usual. Also, when he's eating his bottle he will do a lot of grunting and straining (sometimes having an "explosion" in his pants) but he will also arch his back and make a lot of noise while eating. I know he has only been on the formula for two days so I don't know if I need to wait longer and see if he adjusts or if I should be thinking about trying another formula. I wish it was easier to pick a formula! There are way too many different brands and different kinds!

  • We have had a heck of a time finding formula that works for B.  My dr says give him at least 1 week on the formula to see if it works better.  Have you tried different nipples and bottles to see if that helps as well.  We also have learned to really "jiggle" him while burping to loosen the gas bubbles up.  We notice the difference when we don't jiggle him enough as he gets more gas pains.

  • We've been doing bm throughout the day and formula at night, (same as your brand) and having the same concerns. We're going to try the licolin https://www.mylicon.com/  gas drops and hoping it helps some. I've been told by our pedi that formula babies poop alot less than bf and that formula burns less clean (hence gassiness) than breastmilk.

I'm going to give it a few more days and then see how it goes with the drops. If it doesn't change I'll go to the regular Similac to see if that digest easier for her. I had hoped the sensitive would work but maybe not. Fingers xx! I hate her grunting or waking herself due to gas, looks so uncomfortable for her!

  • I feel like I could've written this post! This is my lil guy exactly! We've been using this formula for just over a week and there is a slight difference! He eats about 4oz. When he gets halfway thru the bottle, I burp him and if he's still kicking and fussing I give him a dose of gripe water, then let him polish off the rest of the bottle! I don't want to change formulas just yet tho...there is slight improvement each day!
