*Atlantic* or others-realtor etiquette question

Realtor (or other) bumpies...I need opinions.

So I contacted a realtor by phone whom 3 coworkers recommended to me and I liked her a lot and more or less decided to go with her BUT...she is out of town until Thursday so she had her good friend and fellow realtor get in touch with us so we could look at houses this weekend. So realtor #2 calls us, is very energetic, we actually have friends in common, etc...and she spent 4 hours showing us houses today. So you can probably guess the rest...I loved her.... so now I wonder if it's bad form to go ahead and use her as my realtor?  Or is that ok and not an unexpected occurence?

 What say you guys?

Re: *Atlantic* or others-realtor etiquette question

  • This is one of (if not the) biggest purchase you will make in your lifetime.  As long as you didn't sign a buyer rep agreement with agent #1, you need to go with the person you're most comfortable with.  So, yes, it kinda sucks for realtor #1 (although she should make a referral fee still on you when you buy), but don't sacrifice your level of comfort for etiquette in a decision as big as this!

I would just want to make sure that realtor #2 is successful and not just has an awesome personality (which maybe you've already figured out after spending the day with her!). Showing homes is the EASY part (a lot of top realtors don't even show homes themselves - they use a showing assistant - since it is not the most dollar productive activity they can undertake).  I do want someone who listens to me throughout the process and helps narrow down my choices with strong "candidate homes" but most of all i want someone who will fiercely negotiate on my behalf, follow-up aggressively, etc.

Good luck!  Feel free to page me or email me at alexis and tim @gmail if you have other questions!

  • Thanks for the input. I haven't signed anything, in fact, I haven't even met Realtor #1. We'll see what I end up doing. Realtor #1 seems nice (on the phone) and I don't want to strain the relationship b/w #1 and 2 and I also don't want to cause any undue tension b/w me and #1 since I'm actually looking to buy in her neighborhood, possibly even on her street!
