One thing I like about living in a 'developing' country is the fact that we have a maid come once a week. We had a BBQ this weekend and although I tried to do all the dishes... being pregnant I failed to do so, and it was so nice today to come home to a super clean house.

Touche! I just naturally assumed you were in the U.S. since 99.9% of the Bump is. I'm always shocked and excited to find fellow Canadians on this board (I've literally seen 6 in the two and a half years I've been on the boards).
Just out of curiosity, what is the link between living in a developing country and having a housekeeper? Is it more common than in other areas? (Not being snarky, I'm genuinely curious).

Another Canadian here!
PS - There are actually quite a few of us, but not everyone has it in their profile.
Yay! More Northern Girls
I guess you're right, not everyone lists their locations in their profiles. I just automatically assume posters on this site are from the States since it seems like most are.
It'll come in handy to know more Canadians, especially closer to the end, because the two healthcare systems are so different.

You got that right, seems like Canada cares more about their females than the States does
The U.S. needs to get with the program and offer the same 1 year off for bonding purposes that Canada does! Other countries like Sweeden offer it too....guess our government is full of cheapies lol
Haha, not going to lie, I can't complain about the year long mat leave!
I was actually referring to the way the obgyn/L&D system is set up. For example, in my Province we don't even see an obgyn until 22 weeks! Also, access to certain specialists and alternative birth options (ex. midwives and birthing centres) is limited. Of course, I'm only speaking for my experience in my area
OP - Sorry for my post-jacking! I wish I had a housekeeper too some days!

I can't speak for Honduras, but in Ghana (and other parts of Africa), it's relatively speaking much more affordable and pretty common to have "house help". I'm guessing that's what the OP was referring to.
